Wanna support my hair & health program for girls (GLAMM: Girls Leading & Moving More)? It’s easy via @donorschoose http://bit.ly/2d8KcIU
Police shootings, aggressive force, the elections, work, classes - do we really need a reason to take some much needed stress-free, self-care time for ourselves??? Join me for a series of monthly stress-free, self-care sessions for women. I need it, you may too. Starting this Sunday, on the first Sunday of every month, join us for Stress-Free, Self-Care Sundays. 100% of donations will support my hair and health education program for urban adolescent girls of color called GLAMM (Girls Leading and Moving More). Join me for an hour of relaxation, meditation, deep-breathing stress relieving techniques and stretching to end our month and gear up for another one, followed by a cultural health discussion to deepen our commitment to living and loving ourselves by making our health a priority. Donations of $10-$25 are appreciated and will support GLAMM (Girls Leading and Moving More), which teaches girls to embrace their culture, hair, and healthy habits. For more information on my cultural health programs for women and girls, visit www.moveitnation.org Bring your girlfriend, yoga mat, and come ready to melt away the stress, meditate and rejuvenate. Space is limited. Register at: http://bit.ly/2dB5c9S

Flores Raras, Vinicius Terranova
In “Flores Raras,” Brazilian photographer Vinicius Terranova photographs Lara and Mara, black twins with albanism, and their older sister Sheila, who has a significantly darker skin tone. The stark contrast between the siblings showcases the beauty and diversity of black skin and blackness as an identity and race.

10 Ingredients For The Health-Conscious Curly
Devri writes:
Being natural while living with a chronic illness can be summed up by this: staying mindful of my hair, my health, and my hair’s health–after all, my life depends on it. In addition to a boundless amount of meds, biweekly infusions, and injections, for me it’s crucial to keep these 10 ingredients incorporated in my hair and skin regimen in order stay as healthy as possible.

It seems as though there are certain aspects of Gabby Douglas that people love to criticize, and the mother of the two-time Olympian is fed up with it. Natalie Hawkins, Douglas’ mom, is now s…
Can we stop with the hate on Gabby Douglas’ hair? She is performing gymnastics. We have so many other critical, important issues in our community and global village. Why are we not talking about men’s hair? #petty #sexism It just shows how political black hair is.
On a larger scale, among us black women, this is much deeper issue. The deep issue is black self-hatred. We have been conditioned for years to hate black-ness. It needs to stop. Like Oprah, I agree that this type of pettiness could have only originated in the black community among black women. Who else would notice that her “edges were not laid” and “her pony tail was not straight”.
Don’t hate, celebrate. Share the love and amazement of Gabby and the other Olympians at all they have accomplished in Rio. Gabby has once again made it to the Olympics. Celebrate it, don’t hate. Parents, educators, role-models, mentors, pass around the love. Remind our children how beautiful their hair, achievements and talents are.
With an Olympic record tie in the 100m freestyle, 16-year old Penny Oleksiak became the first Canadian to ever win four medals in a single summer Olympics, while 20-year-old Simone Manuel became the first black woman in Olympic history to earn an individual swimming gold medal: “It means a lot [to be the first black woman to earn gold in the pool]. I mean, this medal is not just for me. It’s for a whole bunch of people that came before me and have been an inspiration to me. Maritza [Correia], Cullen [Jones], and it’s for all the people after me, who believe they can’t do it. And I just want to be inspiration to others that you can do it.”
