Despite my better judgement, I'm going to answer the question that really should be asked.  This is what everyone who reads this question is really thinking but not willing to ask. My answer will probably be downvoted or reported as unhelpful and disappear from the esteemed list.  But I don't care because if at least one person sees my answer and agrees with an upvote, I will know at least I'm not alone in this world of incompetence.

The Real Question:  When did Quora become Google Search for lazy people? 

We are now in the year 2015, which means over 25% of the US population was born after the invention of the modern Internet, yet hardly any of them know how to use it.  Note this is different than when storehouse-style library buildings became obsolete.  Society still needs libraries of information. 

Goodbye: card catalogs, paper book storehouses, heavy volumes of old dead encyclopedic information. 

Hello: Wikipedia, Internet search, ebooks, live information.

Except we made it too easy; so easy that no one really had to read, because you could you could just as easily turn to Quora, Answerbag or ChaCha and delegate someone to find and edit knowledge for us. But back to the question:

What should I look for in an apartment before renting it?

On Facebook....

I came across a blog post from over a year ago about how Facebook has become littered with social marketers and advertising.

"Facebook is broken. It has become so polluted with social marketers and companies trying to figure out how to monetize it that its original function and purpose has disappeared beyond all recognition.”

A year later the situation seems to have only gotten worse. I'm on a Facebook Feedback Panel and get surveys from them once every month or so. The lack of content by real people in relation to advertising is clearly an issue.

On every survey, each respondent categorizes an opinion (strongly/agree, strongly/disagree, etc.) on a series of statements. Every second or third statement reads something like this:

Facebook feels too commercial.

There are too many ads on Facebook.

There is too much spam in my newsfeed.

Given the nature of this article, you can probably guess how I answered these questions (as I contemplate the Facebook page I'm about to post for my own business...)

But still Facebook is way too commercial. It's a cash machine that will eventually cause it's own demise. Unfortunate.

GUEST: (a little impatiently) We heard that Broadway is dark on Monday nights. Is it safe to walk around?

CONCIERGE: Yes, ma’am. “Dark” just means many of the shows do not have a performance.

GUEST: (hasn’t heard me) What about the restaurants? Will any of them be open?

CONCIERGE: Yes, ma’am, almost every restaurant in the theater district is still open on a Monday night.

GUEST: But will they have their lights on?

CONCIERGE: Yes ma’am, again, “dark” just means-

GUEST: (walks away) Well I guess we’ll figure it out on our own then. Thanks much.

In which the concierge pretends to be more educated than he is.

GUEST: Ehhhh, parlez-vous Francais? CONCIERGE: No. I’m sorry. (Guest rolls her eyes. She and her friend shake their heads as if to say “of course not. Dumb American.”) CONCIERGE: I speak Spanish though. Habla Espanol? GUEST: Oh!  Uh… CONCIERGE: Sprechen sie Deutsch? GUEST: Ehhh… CONCIERGE: I Speak English, Spanish and German but no French. Italiano? GUEST: Ok. No, no. French. Merci.

(Guest sheepishly walks away. Concierge is relieved he was not called upon to fake speaking German or Italian, because he does not speak these languages.  He’s equally relieved he didn’t have a panfully stilted conversation in Spanish. Concierge can also spell some things in American Sign Language letters. Concierge is product of Texas Public School system.)

It’s called like, “This Is Why We Hate You” or “You May be Served Hate Now” or something like that.  That person deals with some morons! CONCIERGE: Huh. Do you think it’s funny? GUEST: It’s hilarious! CONCIERGE: Hmm.  Sounds unprofessional of them. GUEST: Oh, no.  It’s really funny. CONCIERGE: I will have to read it. GUEST: Absolutely! Now those directions to the Empire State Building. CONCIERGE: So when you go out the front door, you’re going to… GUEST: WAIT. Is it North or South of here? Should I take a cab?
