the request to dance sent a searing arrow of pain directly through izzy’s icy heart. keeping her composure at this moment was probably the hardest thing she had done in her entire life and that was a pretty high level of difficulty considering the fact she had somehow become valedictorian and gotten accepted into an ivy league school. “dance?” she let out a chuckle before throwing a glance over her shoulder at her friends who were currently snickering to themselves and whispering. this was the very reason she couldn’t say yes. “you must have hit your head pretty good if you even think for a second that someone like me would ever dance with someone like you. now shoo.” she had to quickly avert her gaze after her statement, feeling tears already welling in her eyes. blink them back and you’ll be fine, she told herself.
izzy’s reaction to his question felt like it should have killed him, glenn honestly speechless. so, they were over -- officially. had they ever been a real thing before, though? it’s not like izzy had ever publicly wanted anything to do with him. glenn wasn’t going to be the type of person to be ignored and teased in public like this just to keep someone else’s attention when they were alone. he loved izzy, he knew he did, but he also knew his heart wasn’t going to take this for much longer. he could feel his eyes stinging. “yeah, you’re right. you’re too goo for someone like me. i just thought that maybe tonight, i would be lucky. thanks, izzy. i hope you have a good one,” he said solemnly as he turned around. he couldn’t be at the ball now -- not when the only reason he was here had shooed him away. he pulled out his phone and quickly deleted izzy’s number before he had a chance to stop himself.
