Hello!

I'm a hobbyist writer that dabbles in both original fiction and fan fiction. Lately I've been vagueposting about my original work and disappearing from Tumblr for months at a time :V Since I have a little bit of a following on here, I've added some basic ground rules. (I'm learning as I go lol)

CAUTIONS

I typically try to keep what I post and reblog sfw, but sometimes mature topics and adulty language slip through the cracks. I'd rate my tumblr PG-13, so there's your general warning. I'll do my best to tag anything that goes above that, though that should be a rare thing here. I reblog a lot and tag for content; if I miss a tag, let me know!

My birdy boy OC's idea of a perfect day is getting to nap in the sun all day lol. Curled up in bed, under a shade tree, anywhere sunny and warm. Bonus points if there's good food and good company to laze around with him. <3

How good are they at cooking?

What is the most complicated thing they can cook, and what do they cook the most often? Do they like cooking? How often do they cook? Do usually they cook for other people or for themself? Do they expirement at all or only make foods they're familiar with?

How well do they follow a recipe? How well can they improvise?

When they don't cook, what do they eat? From a resturaunt, takeout, family member/friend, or private chef? Frozen/premade, government issued protien bar, robot fuel, etc?

My OC's relationship with food is a bit unconventional, at least by human standards. Because he's a bird anthro, he has no teeth--just a long thin beak. He's skinny as a rail and constantly doing Hero Stuff, so he's almost always got food on his mind. He gets hungry quickly and frequently!

He rarely cooks for himself, since loading up on small, easily accessible food sources tends to be easier. Insects, nuts, berries, things like that. When he does have the time to cook, he sticks to simple-to-make things like stew/soup or roasted meat. Basically stuff you can easily make on the (Medieval) road. Dairy doesn't agree with him, though. He also doesn't like coffee or alcohol--too strong. He tolerates black tea if he has to, but loves herbal tea.

Now when he's somewhere safe and living it up? Comfort food for him all the way. His favorite thing ever is red pepper lentil soup, but he also adores bread and sweets. He will straight up sneak sugar cubes, candy, and fruit when no one's looking lol.

Oh God. XD A looooooooooooooooong time ago. I mentioned this in another post, but my birdy boy's been living in my head...probably since I was 14-15? So about 25 years ago now. :) I don't remember the particulars, just that I was heavily obsessed with Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles' Yuke Tribe at the time. My OC's design has changed a lot, from being Yuke-adjacent to being a full-on hoopoe! <3

Oh God, my birdy boy is a diva. XD If he doesn't get a decent meal in the morning, he's a grouch. He also has to have time to sun himself for a while. *nod nod*

I rarely post about sports at all because I'm generally not a big sports fan.

Today is different though.

Edit: I heard that Salah asked the refs to review the foul in the penalty box with the Argentinian player and the ref threatened him with a red card just for asking??? Wtf???

I didn't know we were in the habit of conveniently waiting to act on a foul 110 yards away until someone scores a goal so that goal can be disallowed. That's utter bullcrap. You see the foul, you call it when it happens. Not when you feel like it. That's how every single game of football in the history of the world has ever worked. Hell, that's pretty much how every sport there is works.

As for whether Salah was denied a penalty or not, I'll leave that particular debate to people who know better than me. What I do understand, however, is that if a player requests the referees to review what happened with VAR, he shouldn't be threatened with a red card. That's utter bullcrap, too.

I haven't done squat on Tumblr in two months! :V Uh... Hi, I guess! Been a while!

Basically, life's been busy. Work's been unusually busy, and the heat lately has been draining me. Bleh. On my free time I've been playing Neverwinter Nights 2 like I said. Just got Crossroads Keep! ...I did horribly on my first attempt because I didn't know time passes when you leave the KEEP! I thought it was when you left the AREA! Whoops! XD

The tl;dr is that, basically, I've thrown myself headlong into developing an original writing project I've been working on since childhood. That's why I've been absent. (And will probably be touch and go on Tumblr lol.) If you're interested in the details, hit the read more. Warning: I rant. A LOT. XD

But yeah, mostly I've been devoting my free time to my original fantasy project, which began when I was about 14 or so. I've been afraid to talk about it online period because it's extremely close to my heart, but...I think I'm at a point where I have stuff to talk about and can talk about it safely. :D I don't know what I'll do with this story yet--publish it, keep it to myself, put it up online, whatever--but all I want is for it to be completed. And I think I'm about 25% of the way there. That... For me, after all this time, that is massive.

Now I'm probably super weird as a writer. I have to make loads of test scenes and have someone to bounce ideas off of in order for me to get anywhere. I literally have to have someone ask me (or I ask myself) "But what would Character do if xyz happened?" and the answer just...eventually comes to life on its own.

I can write on my own, but I do so VERY VERY slowly, partially because of life constraints. It's also taken me about 25 years to reach this point (no, that's not a typo) because for some reason I have difficulty applying what I learn, even if I get the idea logically. For a lot of that time, I didn't really have anyone available to tell me what I was doing right or wrong as far as my writing, what was landing, what was tone deaf, whatever. I got frustrated and abandoned the whole thing, though the files all still lived on my computer.

Now we live in a time where there are so many tools available to make use of, that to my knowledge didn't exist when I was a teenager. I have a world map now. (Here's a link to the tool I used, it's insanely good!) I'm working on conlangs on and off. (Here's a YouTube tutorial about it from an actual expert that I still need to finish watching lol) I'm developing my characters through copious amounts of freewriting. I feel like a researcher or a journalist or something irt my own characters. XD I can't even count how many hours I've put into this, and everything about it is just...so freeing. If I don't feel like writing, I can work on conlangs. Or the map. Or character profiles. I have a freaking Obsidian on my computer for this thing! XD Granted it's not filled out very much but I know I'm still going to need it to hold all this freaking lore I've got because holy crap XD

I FINALLY have the beginnings of plot arcs planned. In the past I just pantsed everything, and there's nothing wrong with that either. I just really like seeing my progress take shape. I'm planning on three parts (books?) to this story, and I want it to serve as the foundation for more. This world I have has lived in my head for so long and I've been dying to share it with someone.

So yeah, I haven't forgotten about Tumblr or anything, I've just been a combination of deeply immersed in my own stuff and managing IRL stuff. That's a lot of stuff. ^_^;;; I don't when or even if I'll be on Tumblr regularly, but I promise I remember it exists! I've just been super super focused. :D (I wonder if anyone actually read all of this. Probably not. lol But if you did, thank you. I hope it was helpful somehow!)

I know it's pretty widely discussed how Sunny is a bit lazy and a bit of a coward and a bit selfish but sometimes I feel like the conversation stops there when I really think that should only be the starting point of discussion of his character traits

Because to get the most satisfying ending available, you as Sunny have to pretty consistently make the decision to be active or brave or selfless even when the immediate result of those actions is pain. He isn't being lazy or cowardly or selfish when he jumps into the lake after basil during two days left

Maybe this is just something that everyone else just implicitly understands so it doesn't need to be discussed and I'm the odd one out here lol, these traits of his definitely do exist, it's pretty much the reason things got to this point and they even still show themselves throughout the Sunny route, like with the bathroom scene

Idk maybe I'm just feeling a little emotional because thinking of the moments where Sunny overcomes his instincts to run especially right after remembering the truth makes me want to choke-cry

IMO the moment sunny jumps into the lake is the actual start of the sunny route

It's the first time he actually choses to save basil

From that point on he's set in his track. but it's a choice he has to make again and again and again, even if it only matters the last time, which is usually true for this kind of choices.

"Your choices matter, if only the last time you make them" is a good way to describe branching in omori. It's really powerful in game (the power of repeated prompts thar change meaning each time).

hello i'm a historical fashion researcher and i have a lot of experience looking up things! this is a very widely experienced irritation and you're definitely not alone in this, but i am here to share everything i know!

so, ways to get around this:

turn off AI results. they're literally nonsense to us

don't use pinterest because the sources/provenance is often hard to trace

a standard internet search can be okay, but museum collections are the top tier (list of collections below this list)

instead of broad terms like victorian, regency, tudor, renaissance etc. try using the decade you're looking for. if you're not sure of what decade it is but have a vague image in your head, look on the fashion history timeline and just jump around until you find it. but even changing to e.g. 19th century will give better results than victorian

including terms like womenswear/menswear, daywear, formal wear, evening wear, court dress should increase the value of your search too

including "fashion plates" in your search can give you a nice impression of the intended silhouettes of the era. some of these might be a little stylised but will show you what was considered in vogue

for pre-fashion plate eras or things like makeup and styling, you'll have to look at portraiture or manuscripts. these are harder to actually find what you're looking for, but searching museum collections and limiting results to specific date ranges will be your friend

when looking at art, do bear in mind sometimes artists would paint fabric extra flow-y to show off their skills. it might not have been exactly like that in terms of fabric weight or drape. so, a pinch of salt required!

if you find something on image search where the provenance is dubious, reverse image search and you might find a source! i've been able to trace random pinterest images to real sources, but this does take a lot of time and effort and is often not worth the headache

some online resources and museum collections:

fashion history timeline is an invaluable resource if you're trying to get a feel for everything and should be your first port of call. it'll also link to good examples

the met has a vast number of extant examples of clothing, as well as fashion plates

costume institute fashion plates is a subcollection of the met for fashion plates (1800s-1922)

v&a also has many extant garments, fashion plates, and incredible articles on clothing and aesthetics. read the details of the objects because they'll often reveal a lot about the piece

lacma is good for C19th-20th pieces

nypl digital collection for photographs

national portrait gallery or similar for portraiture, or literally any museum in your country that has historical art

national museums scotland can be useful situationally but might be oddly specific

stout style history is a great collection for finding image references for fat people wearing historical clothes. survival bias of a lot of museum pieces tends towards smaller clothing that couldn't be repurposed, but this aims to counter that. it's not sortable, but is still a really nice resource

wikimedia commons is surprisingly handy! and the images, if you should need to link/repost them, are public domain

auction websites sound like a funny one to recommend. some won't have mannequins and some will. just look up historical garment auctions and you'll find some!

anyway, i hope this has been a good place to start for anyone interested! there are probably some i've missed because there are so many museums across the world and i don't know about all of them or can't remember them. but these are the ones i've used the most! (my specialisation/jobs i've had to research for have only really been in western fashion, so my resources reflect that)

Unfortunately, the page itself is only available in German, but the introductory paragraph is very short and after that, it's organised by country, and then it's a simple list. If you click on a museum's article, the website is usually linked in the overview table.

I know i've said it before, but if you are concerned it could be real and not a scam, the best way to avoid getting scammed is to return contact separately.

Here's how that works:

say you get a text from your internet provider, let's say it's Comcast (whom i hate). So you have this text that says it's from Comcast about your bill with a contact number and a clickable link -- could be real, could be a scam.

Don't touch anything about this text. Open a web browser and look up the customer service number for Comcast. Or get the number from the bill they send you. However you do it, get the contact info for Comcast from a trusted source, like an official phone directory or the Comcast website itself.

Get in touch with them using that information.

So. Let's run the example both ways it could go.

If it IS a scam: you reach out to Comcast and tell them you were contacted about a problem with your bill, they look you up in their customer database, and they tell you there is no problem with your bill.

If it's NOT a scam, you do the same thing, they look you up, and they explain the problem. In this case, neither Comcast nor the employees involved give a single shit whether or not you clicked the link in the text vs. going through their official website.

This works the same for the your bank, the IRS, Amazon, political causes, charities, everything.

By handling any questionable incoming calls to action this way, you significantly protect yourself from scams and malware and shit

You can do this with phone calls too!!! If a company calls you asking for some info or about a problem with you card/account/whatever you can ask them for a reference number for your case and call back later. You don't have to give a reason but if you feel awkward you can just say you have a meeting in 2 minutes but can call back another time to deal with it.

If it's not scam they'll be like sure, here's the reference number. Then you follow the instructions above, call the separate number you find yourself on a reputable website and give that person the reference number. And they'll help you resolve the issue.

Don't let scammers scare you over the phone into giving them sensitive information!!!!
