I want to close with a plea for reclaiming irony from the realm of āhipsterā affectation, as if wearing a silly hat is the most ironic thing you can do. In a world thatās growing increasingly science-fictional and absurd, irony isnāt a way of removing meaning from everything ā rather, itās the most sincere response to a world of nonsense.
Why Nobody Ever Asks if Irony Has Ruined Science Fiction (via allthebirdsinthesky)
the truth is out there, and its in the heart of downtown toronto
what the actual fuck
this is torontoās cultural pride and joy and it is slowly being consumed by an alien spacecraft
A significant portion of the city looks like this actually. Torontoās aesthetic seems to beĀ āreal old buildings being devoured by real new buildings.ā And like sometimes you have houses that look like a 12 year oldās first minecraft build sorta jammed between Victorian era stone houses itās real fuckin weird
I feel like ocad and the ago should be added to this because holy shit torontoās buildings are weird as fuck
THESE LOOK LIKE VIDEO GAME GLITCHES ARE WE SURE TORONTO ISNāT SECRETLY A GIANT GLITCH IN THE MATRIX??
What iām getting from this is that Toronto is home to Missingno.
speaking of bad buildings
they seemed to have not centred the u of t sign in the glass, decided to just say screw it and extend it off the building and then add a solid O at the end just to add to that toronto aestheticā¢
Also there was the tragic zombie attack on Toronto city hall in the second Resident Evil movie.
listening to phil collins
This is literally how I feel right now
I havenāt heard anyone else start on the 2nd beat and instead of ending within the 4th beat (e.g. if he paused after āSegundo,ā or as he does after ācamelā in the next line), continuing well into the next measure without even an accent acknowledging the downbeat. He does this at least 3 times (in addition to several other amazing things) in this track - the first track on his first album.
YES.
I once saw someone point out something I hadnāt really considered before- libraries are one of the only places that are warm and dry where you can stay for long periods of time if you have no money. If youāre someone with nowhere to go during the daytime, they provide a safe environment in which to keep a roof over your head for a while- and all while you can access information.
So yes. This.
Itās weirdā¦libraries almost feel /wrong/ now. Itās like I walk in and thinkĀ āThis is greatā¦where do I put my money?ā
I used to work on a campus library and if you want someplace to put your money, so to speak, make sure you put books back in the designated areas. I know you think youāre being helpful by reshelving, but even if you pull something out to read a couple paragraphs just stick it in the basket for things you didnāt want. I donāt care if you know EXACTLY where you are. In academic libraries (at least in Texas) our funding was determined by how many books people looked at. So we got additional funding based on books not being reshelved. If thereās a designated shelf/basket for things you donāt want, stick things in it!
What @standbyyourmantis said about not reshelving is true for public libraries, too. Our funding is dictated largely by howĀ āusedā we are, so we scan all the items that are laying about as In House Use. That, tied with Reference Count and Door Counter numbers (we have to manually put in the time we take for references) to prove weāre providing a needed service. We also have to count the number of people who come for our programs, which not only helps funding but shows that the programming/services are needed, as well. So, basically, if you want to feel like youāre making sure weāre getting paid and staying around, keep these in mind.
I didnāt know thatās why youāre not supposed to reshelf!
Wow! Thatās astounding!
