genuine question: how did you interpret grace and rockys relationship as romantic instead of platonic? to me it is VERY clear that ryland has never truly had a best friend and rocky is the first person in his life to be someone that cares for me they are the epitome of platonic soulmates in my eyes. im intrigued to see your perspective that they are romantic interests

First,
When Ryland compares Rocky to an old girlfriend. He is setting Rocky in the same role as his ex who brings in more things than she needs. "Again this is very reminiscent of Linda." People dont usually compare friends to exs. It is usually current lovers to pass lovers. Not including the little banter they have. It feels very relationship esk to me. Ryland is grumpy and Rocky is all sunshine drinking a metallic latte while his boyfriend moves his stuff in. ๐ ๐ P. 258
Second,
(Spoilers).....
He chooses to go after Rocky and doesnt give a time frame. Like ok, maybe search for two weeks and then ill turn back and ration my food. No, he knows that he will look for Rocky till his dying day. This reminds me of many movies where family or spouses look for their love ones, regardless of consequences, timing, money...ect. Most shows featuring friends looking for friends. It's because they know they're alive, or it's a very short open window of them, saving them. Rylan doesn't even think rocky's dead until he literally is outside Blip-A. He knows hes alive though. Which is a very strong connection shown in movies when a love one is looking for you.

Third,
He braves this for Rocky.
He wouldn't do this for a single soul on earth. Not for what little family he had left, not for the chance of love or fame. He was a COWARD!!! He even admitted it. But for Rocky.... For love..... For something so powerful it turns your whole life around that you're willing to die. That has to be love. Love is the only thing powerful enough to run head first into death with open arms.
Fourth,

Who cleans up for their bestie? I mean this sounds like a nervous man going "My girls coming over and this place needs to be nice and tiddy." This just gives off boyfriend vibes! Very boyfriend material. ๐ฅฐ

Did they have to use this song for the trailer???? I mean.... ๐ Just the lyrics alone are amazing. This song is for lovers. "Be your fire when you're cold.....Make you good when you are bad......I am your conscience, I am love" AHHHHH! Just the lyrics alone are insane and lover bound. The whole song is very ๐ฅ๐๐ฅ๐๐ฅ
Then hearing this in a slowed remix version on the trailer. Tying their love, hurt, and fears together. The feelings you get when you hear Rocky say that he wont let Grace die and Ryland is screaming "ROCKY" full body and soul, when everything is going to heck. Like, wow, how can this not be about love?!? It's so beautiful and amazing. All the emotion in this book and film are astronomical. (P. 324 - Movie Sceen)

So, this is how my thinking worked while reading PHM and watching the trailers.
They can be friends, they can be lovers, they can be what ever you set your mind too and thats why I love Tumblr. We all have our own outlooks and love for the shows and books that make us happy. I am happy to see how you view them as platonic friends and I wish for that love to grow daily. ๐ฅฐ
