The way the girl on the other drawled out her answer told him that she wasnāt ecstatic at the idea of him coming to visit. He huffs right into the phoneāshe should be more welcoming to him! He could potentially be adopting a dog! He should be treated with respect!
Still, her answer gives him more than enough reassurance.Ā āOkay, Iāll be there in one minute. Thanks!ā he says, fake cheeriness abound, before hanging up. Heās been lowkey loitering in this area for almost half an hour and itās burning hot outside, so heās very excited to get indoors. And pet dogs. Actually, itās mostly the petting dogs part that excites him.
Fixing his collar, he strides around the block until he comes face-to-face with the pet shop. Squinting through the window, he can see a girl tending to the displayāprobably the girl he spoke to on the phone. She looks like the type. Puffing out his chest and trying to come off as a respectful future dog-adopter, he pushes open the door.
Now, the usual respectful future dog-adopter would greet the employee and explain that heās here to look at the dogs. For adoption purposes. But thereās a dog peeking over the edge over the edge of its pen, tail wagging, and how can Mika not go pet it? She said visiting hours were all day. Heāll greet her after! The dogs are more important. Besides, heās pretty sure heās going to be kicked out when they find out heās not actually intending to adopt a dog. He needs to make good use of his time.
Making way for the puppy and completely ignoring the girl, he coos, holding out his hand.Ā āHi there, good boyā¦ā
thereās just so much you can guess based solely on the noises coming from a phone, but when she hears his voice, oh, so cheerful, hanui guesses heās as ecstatic as she should have been. āweāll be waiting!ā and she replies just as excitedly. adoptions didnāt happen every day, after all, and itād feel good to see one of the animals get a good place to call home.
she goes on to attend all the other needs. there are new toys that only recently arrived and she quickly moves to pick the box filled with them from the back. there isnāt much else to do, so she calmly places each one of them without hurry. it takes some time, but a man finally arrives.
at first, she doesnāt give him too much attention. she was busy with the toys, after all, and if he needed help he could come to her. but then she looks at him as he pets one of the dogs and her eyes immediately recognize him. that was probably, what, the millionth time? hanui stands with a sigh (something she did a lot today.) at least the puppy was happy with his visit, but the girl had to bring an end to the situation. āhey, dude,ā she says a bit informally, though the number of times they had already met gave her an excuse to do so. āyou really canāt just come petting the puppies like that.ā
