Big plans for my own little Dream Home

Just somewhere to collect my thoughts and put any inspirational ideas while I save up and hope to own a home one day. It's gonna be so dang awesome y'all

Trying to decide what colors I want to paint different rooms. So far my ideas are:

Living room - light purple

My room - green, possibly multiple shades for different walls

Bathroom - light blue, teal, or turquoise

Kitchen - paint cabinets, maybe dark blue?

Guest room - maybe a warmer color

Project room - not sure yet, but could be cool to have at least one wall be blackboard paint

When I get a house, I will need a decently sized dedicated art/craft room. There's my painting, drawing, photography sets, the 3d printer someone gave me that I haven't had the space to clean and actually try to use yet, the sewing machine I desperately want to buy so I can try to make my own clothes and cosplay pieces, miscellaneous art projects, and my aspirations to eventually get back into soldering/welding projects. I need somewhere to do all of that where it's not blocking up another space like the living room, because that typically gums up my functionality as a human.

If I do eventually manage to get a house I'm going to throw a housewarming shindig and invite literally everyone (non work-related) that I know in the nearby area and it's going to be such a weird mixture of people if they all show up

Once I have a place of my own, I'm going to have a great big display cabinet/hutch for all of my smoking glass. Then when I have guests over I can tell them to pick their favorite piece out of the case for a smoke, which I think would be fun 😊

I painted our guest room in winter ’21/’22. It took about 3 months and at least 5 audiobooks.

Trees are the best because as long as you taper your strokes you can’t really make a mistake. I didn’t have to bother with sketches or planning.

Here are the Behr paints I used (but I didn’t end up using Dragonfly):

The canopy crown for the bed was black but I painted it and then detailed it with a sharpie to make it match the “distressed” white end tables.

I’ve since learned more about trees and realized that a real forest would be more straight trunks and less tangly branches but I regret nothing because the tangles were the most fun to paint.

If you can't find a specific list of rain garden plants for your area, any native plants you recognize from your local wetlands will work great! Here in the southeastern US we have a lot of perennial wildflowers that love a wet meadow environment, as well as low canopy trees like willows and birches.

Don't dig things up directly from a wild/park wetland as they are often fragile habitats, but it's usually safe to harvest seeds or small cuttings from bushes or trees to propagate in your garden. Once you have a good stock at home, you can give some away to your friends.

I can't tell if I'm just burning out/getting scared, or if I legitimately need to slow down and let myself save for a while longer before taking any more steps towards this home ownership goal.

Part of me is scared that if I stop pushing forward, everything will fall apart. Like some kind of horrible, costly life emergency event will happen and destroy my tiny savings. Or maybe student loan payments will get jacked through the roof (it seems like this one is already happening to some folks.) Or perhaps the entire system of help in place for first time homebuyers will just disintegrate under the dipshit leadership of the current fascist techdouche regime.

But short of robbing a bank or something, I can't really do anything else to bring up my savings numbers other than waiting and saving and waiting and saving. Nobody willing or able to help. Everything is so tantalizingly close but still so frustratingly out of my grabby hands.

Am I just pushing because I need this? Not just in the "I really need to stop throwing money away on rent" kind of way, but because I need a goal to aim for or I fall into a dark mental pit. I'm mostly giving up on ever finding love, or even a good lay. I have to accept that there is something fundamentally unlovable and undesirable about me and move on. I need a house to focus on, to fixate one, to dream about all of the fun little scenarios I want to make happen someday. I need something to dream for, so I don't just wish that I were dead instead.

I know that stopping for a bit and saving more is probably a good, smart idea. But I've been riding the high of looking at houses online and going through the first baby steps of the actual buying process for weeks. Without that wind in my sails, I'm not sure what I'll do.
