✎ - She didn’t how she imagined running into a younger child late at night - but it certainly wasn’t something like this. A rebellious teenager would have been more likely to meet her with the tone she was given, but the investigator did not do so much as flinch at the inconsideration. She had dealt with much worse, after all - who was she to say these weren’t simply the actions of a defensively child, scared for her life? She had no reason to come to premature conclusions.
“Because I’m worried” she answered honestly, not only moving her head to watch the child’s movements, avoiding a confrontational stare into her eyes like an angry parent. She could have any number of reasons for being out here, after all. “It’s cold out here. Would you at least allow me to bring you a blanket? I’d only like to know why you’re out here by yourself tonight. I don’t intend to you get you in trouble either way - only to make sure you’ll be alright for the night.”
She quickly mulled over the different situations she could be dealing with - a runaway kid, an orphan or something else…? There was no way to tell, so the child’s safety was her first priorty.
“I should introduce myself - I’m Asano of the Blue Sky Society - what’s your name?”
BECAUSE SHE’S WORRIED ? that couldn’t be true . nobody worried about kyouko . at least , not since her mother died . the rest of the town certainly didn’t care . but she didn’t need them to , either . didn’t deserve their worry . just like she didn’t deserve this girl’s . she should have pushed through the ache of her muscles && gone back anyways . but it was too late for that now , wasn’t it ?
it would be pathetic to make this stranger bring her a blanket , even if the wind was admittedly cold — instead pulled her worn sweatshirt tighter around her shoulders as she shook her head slightly . but she’d still at least offer the other her name , “ my name’s kyouko . 'n it’s nice of you to worry && all , but i’m fine . i was just gonna go home anyways . ” though the term home really was an overstatement . more - so a place with a decent roof .
not that she had room to complain . after all , she was capable of breaking into hotel rooms . often did so during the colder months . was little more than whatever remained of her MORALS keeping her from holing up in one permanently . or rather — that && the fear of being caught . were moments like these that she wished she hadn’t lost her ability to use her mind manipulation magic . not to hurt them , but just to convince them to give her a room for FREE .
but it had been years since she lost it , && she doubted it would return any time soon — not that it mattered now . pushed herself up onto feet , zipping her hoodie up the rest of the way , red eyes assessed the other closely — still wary . “ unless you have a problem with THAT , too . ”
