Samah’s elderly mother passed away yesterday. She had been suffering from broken bones, bedsores, and infections. Samah and her daughter Hamsa evacuated to Cairo but had to leave the rest of their family behind, and now they have lost someone so dear—Hamsa calls her “the most loving person in my life”.

They’ve been fundraising for months and have only received €6433 out of €30 000. Please hear their grief and have compassion.

“Hello everyone this is me Hamsa..

Did you forget me? Did you forget my family? I feel ashamed to always remind you that my family still needs you and that the war is not over yet, on the contrary the situation is getting worse, my sister's children lost weight because of the famine now in Gaza. There is no food because the Israeli army closed the crossings and prevented food from entering.. and if there is food, the prices are unbelievable, please do not forget my family, they have had no income for more than a year.. their only income is this donation link. You’re my only hope, I don’t want to lose the rest of my family..”

when you're disabled and you don't have friends or family to rely on you're fucked

what we shouldn't assume that every disabled person has friends and family to rely on, just because you're in a bad position otherwise. there are disabled people who have no family to rely upon. for someone who doesn't have friends and family, they'll probably be homeless. unless they're too disabled to survive being homeless in which case the disabled person might die. some people survive on disability support, but notably countless disabled people die on the waiting list for that. some people rely on donations and the aid of strangers. this is pretty unreliable support but like what else is there. a lot of disabled people fall through the cracks because family is often the first and last defence against many social issues.

that also means a lot of disabled people are stuck with abusive families because they have no ability to survive alone. some disabled people might have to become homeless as the alternative to their family because the abuse would kill them first. a lot of disabled people who never get talked about don't have the luxury of having a choice, their disabilities impair them too much to manage their own situation. sometimes disabled people end up institutionalised and just stay there forever. when you're disabled you're vulnerable to all of the faults of our current system. the safety net is not made to catch people like you. the reality is that we get abused, become homeless, and lose our lives due to a structural failure of our society to support vulnerable humans.

it makes me so mad the way people in my life treat animals. talking abt how you can keep a betta fish in a jar no problem. getting big, energetic dogs when they work night shifts and live in small apartments. letting cats kill bird after bird. where are our basic animal husbandry skills? does no one notice that these animals are understimulated and overfed and unhappy?

I was curious about this, not because I was surprised the cat was "neither male nor female" but because I was surprised this is a "first". I mean, intersex cats exist. Any time an apparently male cat is tortie/calico, for example, that's an intersex animal, probably XXY.

Turns out, though, that this kitty is very rare - they have no external genitals, and vets can find no evidence of internal reproductive organs either. So yeah, fair enough, I've literally never heard of an animal being born like that! Isn't nature something?
