I left this website a long time ago, when I realised I’d had enough if its bullshit. I logged on yesterday when I was bored, out of plain curiosity about what people thought about the new Avengers movie, and I was astounded by the degree in which, even after all this time, people’s stupidity on here doesn’t fail to surprise me.
How is it possible that so many people, gathered in this particular website and nowhere fucking else, can misunderstand a scene so deeply that will be ready to start a riot over a thing that was never said? How is it possible that a group of people that pride themselves on their supposed insightful thinking deem a piece of dialogue as badly written because it would take like 30 seconds of their apparently empty head to work, for them to understand what was being implied?
This place holds one of the most unhealthy, most gullible and most idiotic crowds I have ever encountered, and I have to get it off my chest. You have created an entire new subculture based on being sour, judgemental and condescending, masking it as tolerance and open-mindedness. There are hundreds of people on here actively searching for something to be sour and offended about only to appear cool and insightful to a bunch of equally brainless teenagers, who are willing to glorify the brainfart of anyone around as long as it is written in that stupid passive-aggressive, “powerful” vocabulary that you all love and is about one of the most irritating things on earth. You’re all a bunch a monkeys with keyboards praising each other on the same recycled crap you repeat every day, as long as it is worded in a way you haven’t seen it worded before.
Sometimes I wonder how some of you can even function in the real word, where people don’t give a shit that you’re offended and it is not acceptable to scream at people and wish them to die fir saying something that made you mildly uncomfortable. Everyone here is pampering each other in such a sickening way that I wonder if you have ever existed in a real-life context away from your computer at all. Telling someone to “take care of themselves” by staying off school or work because they feel like it is not good advice, and it is not applicable to a context where not everyone is an oversensitive teenager willing to excuse you everything because you were sad when you did it. Toughen the fuck up, the world is not a kindergarten.
Phrases like “destroy the idea”, “spread it like wildfire” and “problematic” make me want to vomit even though I didn’t mind them before. No one gives a shit about your 45 triggers, not when the only thing that they trigger is a vague sense of discomfort or annoyance. Not everything you say is valid just because you feel it, sometimes your gut is wrong. A self-diagnosis is not as good as as doctor’s opinion, it’s worth garbage. Don’t proclaim yourself having an illness because you think you match the symptoms you read on the internet. You are not a plant, an animal or a fictional character, you’re just a dumb teenager with a special snowflake syndrome. Take your passive-aggressive smileys and ‘uwu’s and shove them up your ass. Take your crooked idea of social justice and strangle yourselves with it. Being offended doesn’t win you an argument. Being offended on someone else’s behalf doesn’t make you progressive. Made to feel bad over a conversation that you will have forgotten all about in 20 minutes is not the worst thing that could happen to a person. Stop calling people scum for not agreeing with your ridiculous opinion or for being plain uninformed. People aren’t born educated, grow the fuck up. You're allowed to enjoy a piece of art or media, even if you find aspects of it insulting, for fuck's sake, that's not the only thing that defines a work's worth. Not everything has a deeper meaning, sometimes things just are. Learn to take a joke. Stop taking yourself so seriously, you’re not saving the world, I doubt you’re even qualified to live in it. Accept that your idea of equality can be faulty. And above all, shut the fuck up already.
I started writing this post to talk about people’s reaction to Age of Ultron (or a particular scene in it), but then I realised there are far more important things I hate you for. If this offends you, I meant for it to offend you. I hope you’re offended. Good-fucking-bye. @madshelley
