We made it! You worked hard! Now.. let's go home
HAPPY GSGW MANHWA DAY!!!
this yoohankim artist still serves their yoohankim the old fashioned way
are there any other Carl fans out there 😭 nobody talks about my goat
carl is introduced as an extension of stratt. he's there to physically get grace into the car just in case stratt's words are not imposing enough. and when stratt does her little emotional manipulation show pretending she's gonna leave grace out of the project, it is carl who pushes him to just say yes to the three astrophage dots, acting almost as a mediator between them
but given time, carl and grace become friends. they do their venus box experiment together and grace credits carl in front of representatives from all around the world when asked about his discoveries. the movie even calls them parents, which is obviously played as a joke, but as someone who loves to take things too seriously, i do think it's significant when rocky having a mate and the reasons grace doesn't have one become a trigger for more memories later down the line. and that's the thing. grace wants to have an emotional connection with stratt, but she denies him of any friendship outside of a professional relationship. so he's friends with carl instead
and somewhere along the way, grace and the audience forget that carl is an extension of stratt, so we need to be reminded and feel kind of stupid for forgetting. we know that carl works for stratt, but he's grace's friend, so his loyalty lies with him right? nope. just like stratt, carl errs in the side of humanity. so when grace is chased and held down, carl doesn't try to help him get free, he doesn't even appear to consider it. he's back to being an imposing figure enacting a will higher than grace's
however, in grace's final moments amongst humanity, it is carl who acts as stratt's mouthpiece and delivers the lines that she cannot say herself, but we understand they come from her because she showed enough vulnerability to tell grace that she believes in him:
you know who you are, you're gonna do great

do u think omegaverse acknowledges covid-19 and the generation of people who permanently lost their sense of smell like how are they all scenting each other now is the omegaverse economy in shambles
actually pheromone sensing works differently from normal olfaction, since humans in our world don’t have a functioning vomeronasal organ (VNO), we don’t have any data on how covid-19 would affect a functioning VNO in omegaverse AUs
Actually there is evidence that covid probably would affect the VNO and it stands to reason would accordingly impair its function. Briefly:
SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes covid, can only infect cells expressing a certain protein called ACE2
ACE2 is expressed widely in nasal cavity epithelial cells but not in olfactory sensory neurons.
Seo et al. (2021) studied potential nasal targets for SARS-CoV-2 using golden hamsters as a model organism (commonly used as a proxy for humans in virology studies)
They found ACE2 expression in the main olfactory bulb epithelium (MOE, your “normal” nose organ) as well as the vomeronasal organ (VNO)
Several cell types in the VNO were able to be infected and they also found significant inflammatory activity (macrophage activation, apoptotic cells, etc)
The specifics of how covid actually causes dysosmia are not known for sure but epithelial damage by local inflammatory immune responses likely plays a role, especially because sensory neurons themselves are not affected (Bilinska, & Butowt, 2020). Therefore I would suggest a potential similar effect of VNO dysfunction as we see in the main olfactory bulb
From Seo et al.: “Considering the function of the VNO, infection and subsequent pathologic changes may affect the behavior of Syrian hamsters”
If it stands to reason that omegaverse individuals have functioning VNOs similar to members of the animal kingdom, then it is more than reasonable to conclude that covid may cause them to lose not only their main olfactory function, but also their VNO function as well

In conclusion the omegaverse economy IS in shambles.
OP this is very well-written but im still hung up on how you came onstage dressed as a clown only to tear off the costume and reveal yourself as a biologist
so we’ve had 3 nosferatus and uncountable number of draculas and that’s all well and good but PLEASE can we have one (1) carmilla movie that’s not a poorly adapted and generally cringe web series from 2015. please please please i’m dying for a serious romantic horror movie about my belovedest girl vampire who is soooo in love and soooooo starving she just can’t control herself
Are Jane Austen's books romances or not is a question wrapped up in so much misogyny and bias that it's very hard to answer without a thousand caveats. The almost knee-jerk reaction of some Austen fans to insist that the novels aren't romance is because we are all well aware of the negative associations (romance = stupid girl stuff that isn't worth educated men's time). However, most people who say this, I really believe, mean no offense to romance as a genre that many people love.
And what is romance? Do all the heroines in Austen's novels end up married by the end? Well yes, but lots of books that are definitely not romances end with the main character married. Is Emily Brontë only included in this list because she's a woman, because I read Wuthering Heights as a revenge Gothic tragedy:
A romance or romantic novel is a genre fiction work focused on the relationship and romantic love between two people, often concluding with an emotionally satisfying or optimistic ending. Authors who have significantly contributed to the development of this genre include Samuel Richardson, Frances Burney, Maria Edgeworth, Jane Austen, Charlotte Brontë, Emily Brontë, and Anne Brontë.
I would personally say, and many agree, that a modern romance must have a happy ending (HEA), but the exact definition is hard to pin down even by experts. One of the common things in pulp fiction romance is a hyper focus on the two leads, to the point that most other characters feel two-dimensional. I don't think Jane Austen fits that genre convention at all. She does great side character building and her worlds feel lived-in in a way that makes her stories become real.
Anyway, definitions aside, there are some very real reasons not to call Austen's novels romance, at least some of them:
Emma and Mansfield Park especially don't fit the definition at all, in my opinion. Those novels are far more interested in the growth of the main character than their end romances. They are both coming-of-age novels and not primarily romance
The novels are all heavy on social satire
Just because a novel was written by a woman and is mostly in a female point of view, it doesn't have to be classified as a romance. Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest ends in three marriages and is almost entirely about the relationships between the four main love interests, and yet it's mostly classified as a comedy. "Woman wrote = romance" can be very annoying
It's hard to fully articulate, "Yes, Jane Austen's novels have romance, but they have so much more, like satire and social commentary and women coming of age, so it feels reductive to classify them as only romance, and also, I'm afraid you are shoving her into the box of Stupid Women Novels which is a stupid, false category to begin with, but I don't want her in that box, not that I have anything against pulp fiction romance as a genre, but that is very much not what she wrote." and so you end up with, "Jane Austen didn't write romance" even though, well she did, but-
"I've never met a picky eater of color" very much does feel like a pretty benign example of "people of color are cool, white people we uncool" type of racism because I think every culture has their own version of "chicken strips and fries" it's just that people aren't going to clock "curry and rice" or "miso buttle noodles" as being "safe foods" because their "ethnic". whatever that means.
Just realized that the reason I love making friends on tumblr is because it’s exactly how you make friends on the playground as a six year old. No, I don’t know their name but they love mermaids too and built this awesome sand castle. No, I don’t know their age but their imaginary cheetah is friends with mine. You like this show? You like this character?? You can sing the theme song really loud??? Here is a flower crown. Here is a juice box. You can share my time and I might never see you again but part of you stays in my soul forever. In my mind we’re still on the swing set and the sky is blue and nothing will ever be wrong again.
would anyone's imaginary cheetah be friends with mine...
my imaginary cheetah would be friends with yours
okay!

one thing i love about the phm fandom is the sheer amount of people who love stratt. like so many other fandoms would overlook her or hate her or reduce her into an evil caricature because shes a woman in a powerful position who did something bad to the white boy protagonist but the phm fandom ADORES her. and theyre right. eva stratt the character ever
