Kevin Day & Riko's Obsession with Kevin
The King and the Queen of the Court.
Riko was the second son born to the Moriyama family, a legacy, yet his worth was close to none. He had nothing while his brother who was lucky enough to be born three years earlier had everything.
"Riko will find out the truth, but he can't tell his brother. For starters, Riko and Ichirou aren't allowed to associate with each other, seeing how they belong to separate branches...." - Foxhole Court, Nora Sakavic
He had nothing for years, and then all at once he had everything the moment that Kevin turned his gaze on to Riko and gave him a brilliant smile. Because Kevin was a match on a cold winter night, he was a piece of bread in the hands of a starving man, a hope in a life born of nothing. Kevin Day belonged to Riko Moriyama in a way that nothing else had before. Kevin was his.
Riko was number one of the perfect court, and had been dubbed the king of the court. They weren't equal's, and wasn't that so much better?
Kevin was number two. He was lower than Riko, but would stand almost at the same level for he was his pair. Kevin was his partner, who was bound to always be at his side but would never be allowed to stand before him. If he was the King, didn't it make sense that Kevin was to be the Queen of his Court?
They were both stuck in the Nest, and Riko was content with it as long as he had Kevin by his side at the end of the day. Kevin, who kept stepping outside the norm and wanting things that were outside of the Nest— things that Riko never failed to get for him.
Kevin stared back at him, white-faced and tense. "You said that goalkeeper had potential and then wrote him off as useless when I offered him to you. You'll get bored of this one just as quickly. Believe me." - Foxhole Court, Nora Sakavic
Kevin liked History. In the end, Riko and Kevin studied History together, while every other Raven studied the same thing. Riko got everything that Kevin wanted, everything he spared his attention to for too long— Kevin never got bored of Andrew, he never lost interest in him, but Kevin still wrote him off as useless, because he knew that otherwise Riko would get him for Kevin no matter what, perhaps Riko wished to make sure that Andrew would never be a big enough deal for him to care about after Kevin 'stopped caring about him', and that was why he paid a couple of people to take care of the problem. A couple weeks later, Andrew was on an experimental medicine 24/7.
Riko had the same stare his father did: he looked at Neil and saw only flesh that knew how to bleed. - Foxhole Court, Nora Sakavic
Kevin knows how far Riko can go, he knows that he is willing to do anything to get what he wants— if he asks for Kevin to comeback, Kevin would have no other choice but to go back.
"I warned Andrew he was going to come for me. I told him!"
"It doesn't matter. You signed a contract with me."
"He could pay off my scholarship in a heartbeat. You know he would. He'd pay you off and take me home and I—I can't go back there. I can't, I can't, I won't, I—I have to go. I have to go. I should go now, before he has to come for me. Maybe he'll forgive me if I go back. If I make him hunt me down any more than I have already he'll kill me for sure."
"Shut up," Wymack said. "You're not going anywhere."
"I can't tell Riko no!"
"Then don't say a word," Wymack said. - Foxhole Court, Nora Sakavic
He can't talk back, because when it comes down to it 'yes' is the only thing he knows how to utter out when it's the only thing that gets a positive reaction.
"Kevin pressed his lips into a hard line and looked away. Riko made a disgusted noise low in his throat. He said something in a language Neil didn't understand. Neil guessed it was Japanese. Whatever it was, it sounded furious. Kevin flinched and offered a weak response. Riko stabbed a finger at him in angry accusation and rattled away, getting louder and more incensed by the second. Neil watched Kevin wilt beneath the weight of his brother's—no, owner's—fury and kissed his survival instincts goodbye." - Foxhole Court, Nora Sakavic
He has never been allowed to say no— he no longer knows how to say 'no', so others have to do it for him instead. Years of conditioning, years of having been stuck in Riko's orbit and never allowed to step out of it for a mere second, Kevin is too afraid to step back in it even for a mere second.
He grabbed Riko's shirt and hauled him back.
"Leave him alone."
- Foxhole Court, Nora Sakavic
Kevin is so afraid of saying 'no', that he doesn't realise that Riko isn't allowed to ask Kevin to return to the Nest.
"...More importantly, Coach Moriyama won't let him. This year is about Kevin and Riko, see? He won't want news about you getting out and distracting people from their showdown. They're free to make your life a living hell and they'll try to use the truth against you, but they can't sell you out yet..." - Foxhole Court, Nora Sakavic
Riko isn't allowed to ask for Kevin to come back. The match is something that Coach Moriyama wants to see happen. It's something that everyone needs to focus on. There can be no distractions. There are whispers that the Nest is nothing without its Queen, and Coach Moriyama will have Kevin return but not before those whispers are silenced. He won't have anyone looking down on the Moriyama's.
A black look twisted Riko's expression into something ugly and unrecognizable. He reached for Neil but Kevin caught his arm to stop him. Riko slammed his elbow back into Kevin's face without missing a beat.
- Foxhole Court, Nora Sakavic
There is nothing innocent about the love that Riko carries for Kevin, nothing brotherly, nothing soft. Riko's love, if one can even call it that when it's more obsession than anything else, bares teeth. He bites to break skin and doesn't hold back, no matter who his victim is.
