I became a Taylor Swift fan during the Debut era, I wanted to listen to the girl with curly hair like mine all day and all night ever since I first heard Time McGraw! Her voice and lyrics and the stories she spun had me hooked from the start!
I have so many memories and meanings that go into a lot of my favorite Taylor Swift songs but honestly, the most inspiring is probably All Too Well, despite it being such a sad song. This song teaches me every time I listen to it that I’m not alone. My memories work the way that song is written, like stories captured in time and frozen by the emotions that encapsulate each moment. All Too Well is about those memories, the scarf that you wore that day, the way you felt when you first met and his past became yours too for a brief moment. The way that every time you are reminded of something from then, you remember it and him all too well. It really does come back in flash backs and echoes, it truly does. My experiences with some of the best and worst people I have ever been close to function the way this song does. And honestly knowing Taylor feels that way too helps when I’m at my lowest and darkest points.
I have two experiences with concerts! I actually saw Taylor when she opened for Rascal Flats! I begged my parents and they took me even though it was a school night. I loved it and I heard Speak Now before it was released! I remember buying a pink and purple Taylor Swift shirt in support and changing into it right there. I also remember listening to Taylor jamming out on trash cans with her violinist and loving every second of the entire concert. That’s the day Sparks Fly became one of my favorite songs too
My other experience is more recent, it’s from 2018 at the Reputation tour. I had a very wealthy ex who basically emotionally manipulated me by buying tickets even though he knew I wasn’t interested in dating him anymore, he even wanted to buy his way into a meet and greet with Taylor through a friend of Scott’s, it was terrible and traumatizing and I really felt a deep feeling of loss after thinking I had lost the opportunity to see Taylor live as an adult, and the manipulation just broke my heart
But I changed it, the week before I bought my dad and I tickets to the same show all with my own money I’d saved up. We went and it was the best night of my life! I screamed and cried and sang along as loud as I could! I can’t replicate that feeling no matter what. That wonderful night in the darkness I was experiencing that year really made things feel golden again for a bit
There are a hundred thrown out speeches I want to say to you Taylor, I want to tell you how much you have changed my life for the better of course, how understood your make me feel, how you help me cope with my chronic illnesses, my anxiety, my emotions, and the times when my heart is both heavy and light as can be
I write because of Taylor, I write in the same story-like ways you do about every emotion I ever experience, good or bad. I’m able to feel more like myself and process life’s events because of what you’ve helped me discover
I want to tell you all about how during reputation era my own reputation had never been worse but the man I love now liked me for me anyway. He’s a London boy too, and honestly these past two eras have paralleled my life so perfectly that it’s so amazing to me to be able to experience these things too
I want to tell you so much more but this is the shortest way I can condense this. I’m a writer, I’m a cat lover (I have four I stumble home to), I’m an over thinker but also an over lover, I’m so very much glad that young Jennifer listened to CMT with her dad and found you, Taylor, I love you forever and always
