was just at DC Pride and they had cops stationed every so often along the parade route. unfortunately the cop closest to us looked strikingly like an Asian Sidney Crosby. like, big lips, distinctive nose, long dark eyelashes, the whole nine yards. so much so that i kept staring at him and then getting annoyed that i kept staring at him. like ok yeah Sidney Copsby over here copmogging everyone 🙄
unreasonably funny graphic to convey this news

being a team sports fan really is like oh what if you stanned the ship of theseus
thinking about how my sister’s boyfriend reacted to seeing a heated rivalry edit by going “WTF WERE THOSE TWO DUDES KISSING???” but not like. not even in a homophobic way. more like he’d never heard of gay people before and this was the first time he was learning about it. like he’d just had an extraterrestrial encounter and wasn’t going to let people convince him otherwise because HE KNOWS WHAT HE SAW. those two MEN were KISSING. THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE.
happy birthday!!!!! omg i hope u have such a fun great amazing phenomenal fantastic dayyyyyyy huhuuhuuu!1!1!!!
thank you!!!! i was sick unfortunately so it could have been better but i still had a nice time all things considered :)
mens professional ice hockey is truly THEE losergirl sport. obsessively physical. sweat everywhere. intricate superstition rituals and blood sacrifices to gods who can't hear or don't care. hating your father. eating like your mother. going into the gladiator arena every night literally green with envy that everyone else is somehow faster and smarter and better than you. getting that one lame little gametime win-- arm cocked back and firing like a sniper, gunpowder on your stick, artificial windchill biting the back of your neck as your man collects your pass, landing the dirtiest filthiest most teeth grinding hit-- and suddenly a friendly face wearing familiar colors is crashing into your arms and licking your cheek and calling you a beauty. you're beautiful. holy shit. you're really beautiful.
okay obsessed with the new noah kahan album btw and now i’m mulling over the sheer fic potential of the line “I don’t mind being your dead end / I think it’s fine to never move on”
art people hate sports because they need stories spoonfed to them like a child meanwhile the humble sportsfan is able to construct and see decades long narratives and character arcs born of the true art and passion of competitive playing
a sportsfan says things like “we” and “our team” because they are part of the sport’s narrative. i do think its silly but at the same time it is true. and i love it for that
there are narratives everywhere for even the most average of sports fans to see
there are the underdogs that come to triumph against all odds, which is seemingly the only real narrative that breaks containment & makes waves, but there are tragedies & traumas that span generations & there are tales of greed & hubris & every folly imaginable & you watch your heroes grow old & get injured & sometimes fade into obscurity & that can & will break your heart & yet there's also so much joy & beauty & small patches of the collective in this bitch of an individualist society
it's the "how can you not be romantic about baseball?" but for all sport, even the bougie ones that i don't really understand
it's so funny bc there are so many kinds of sports fan - including those who are more "artsier" or more ~romantic~ - i have no idea why non-fans act like these spheres can't & don't intersect
like there are sportswriters... writing some of the most beautiful prose & threading so many incredible things together but you think it's beneath you
you were able to digest jon bois' What Football Will Look Like in the Future & yet you've removed all of the sport from it - and why is that?
there's such a rich sense of History for so many sports fans... some fandoms & sports are a bit more romantic than others (speaking from a fan whose baseball fandom has #ForeverGiant & is literally going to honor someone tomorrow) but there's an understanding of all of these stories & figures & teams who have come before - actual living "lore" that continues to stand the test of time
like that kind of genuine Reverance just isn't repeated in the same way

being a fan of something with like 30 total fans on tumblr is funny bc you get like 12 notes on a post and you're like wow the gang's all here
everybody loves sidney ✩ for my mwah @sweethomeblue
