the canadian government has put oil companies over the lives and territories of indigenous peoples. this isn’t reconciliation, this is apart of the ongoing genocide in canada, to which our prime minister is entirely complacent.

I was horrified when heavily-armed RCMP officers forcibly removed Wet'suwet'en people from their own territory last year, and want to make sure your government doesn’t let this happen today.

All five Clans of the Wet’suwet’en have rejected all pipelines.  Coastal GasLink’s proposed pipeline does not have free, prior, and informed consent from the Wet’suwet’en. Coastal GasLink and the RCMP are trespassing on sovereign Wet’suwet’en land.

seeing a lot of joaquin phoenix and i know it’s not really Known because people seem to be reluctant in putting blame on him but he was named by the same women who accused casey affleck of being inappropriate on set. the women claimed that he and affleck locked themselves in their hotel room with two other women, allegedly to have sex with them.

god the bush fire situation is so fucking devastating as an indigenous person because not only is my home being fucking ravaged by fires and has been for months, but people only seem to care about the animals.

and don't get me wrong, care about the animals! i care about the animals! they're MY native animals, they're part of my culture and home and they're living breathing creatures.

but there's so so so many things in place already to help animals, shelters and charities and sanctuaries, and by all means help them more, but the government does not care about aboriginal australians. shit, scomo doesn't give a flying fuck about anyone who isn't a white cishet able bodied christian.

aboriginal australians are losing our homes, you say people aren't endangered but WE ARE. we make up a tiny percentage of our country, and a vast majority of us live in poverty and unsafe areas. not only are we losing our homes, we're losing our identity, our lives, our families. this land means more to us than it ever will to people crying over the koalas. the koalas mean more to us than they ever will to you.

remember who lived alongside those animals for thousands of years.

there's a million things i could say about why we need help more than the animals, but in the end white people will care more about what's small and fluffy than people of colour, especially people whose land they're living on, right?

You know we have to farm cows for manure right? How do vegans suggest we fertilize crops without animal faeces? And without the bees we farm?

I genuinely cannot understand the mentality of someone who would type this into a vegan’s inbox before they typed it into a search engine. Cow manure is not the only fertilizer in existence, the only reason we use it as much as we do is because we produce excessive amounts of animal waste through farming animals, which creates a whole host of environmental issues. Plant fertilisers exist, this is largely how natural ecosystems are fertilised and sustainable vegan organic farming is very much a thing. 

As for bees, we don’t actually morally object to bees fertilising plants as part of a natural ecosystem, what we do object to is farming them for their honey. There is absolutely no reason to suppose that bees would need to have their honey stolen and sold in order to pollinate crops. The only reason we rely so heavily on captive bees as pollinators is because of how broken our intensive agricultural system is, but that isn’t the only way to farm, in fact it’s a relatively new problem. Domestic bees are also fairly obviously not the only pollinators either, or even the most effective.

What you’re doing here is making the fallacious assumption that because things are done this way now, they could not be done in any other way. You’re contesting that we couldn’t farm food effectively without animal agriculture, but you’re failing to appreciate that what we are doing now also not working. We have animal waste causing public health scares and massive amounts of pollution, and wild bee numbers continue to decline while the industry continues to farm non/m-native, domesticated bees. The status quo clearly isn’t working, so you can hardly use that as an argument against changing it.

For anyone who doesn’t feel like reading the article, TL;DR:

• PETA violates labor laws regarding unpaid work and overtime

• PETA’s ideology decides whether or not you can get anywhere and you are shamed or fired for not following it

• Employees are forced to watch traumatizing videos of animal abuse over and over, are not provided any sort of emotional support, and are shamed for complaining about it

• PETA has employees donate to them and generally grabs money at every turn

Things i’ve learnt being a vegan with chronic illnesses :

• Meal prepping may seem tedious but it’s actually super handy so you have food available on the bad health days when cooking isn’t an option!

• It’s much cheaper being vegan which is great when you’re on benefits! Just don’t expect to be having avocado all the time (seriously how do people afford avocados??)

• Buy in bulk! foods such as tinned beans/lentils are great! And the big own brand value packs of grains are fab!

• Buying food online and having home delivery (which is free in many cases) is super helpful when you have mobility issues and heavy lifting isn’t an option!

• To stay away from those in the vegan community who are vegan as a ‘diet’ not ethical reasons cause they can be pretty damm ablest! (No Susan. Yoga and raw food isn’t going to cure me..)

• In that same vein, your gonna get carnists who tell you that ‘you need a burger’, that somehow your sick because your vegan?? They can also fuck off.

• Meat alternatives like seitan can be really bad when you have food intolerance and GI issues! Their are other gluten free options like tofu and tempeh just be sure to check your options!

• Research is key! It can be much harder especially when you have food intolerance issues but with some research and planning it’s doable!

• Frozen veggies are amazing and cheap! You don’t need to buy fresh vegetables that then go off because you’ve not been able to prepare them (seriously all that cutting and preppin.. not great with painfull hands and blood pressure issues!)

• It can suck having to take medication where you don’t know if they are vegan or tested on animals…you can only do your best and if that means having to take medication that isn’t vegan while advocating an end to animals testing and the meat and dairy industry then that’s ok! Don’t beat yourself up over it! Really don’t! !

• Being vegan mean doing the best you can and that’s all you can do! Don’t compare yourself to others your doing great!!

Many wealthy countries—particularly Western, white-dominated ones—treat Southeast Asia as their playground and dumping ground, then have the nerve to blame Southeast Asian countries for the poverty and pollution they helped create. These countries—which enrich themselves by devastating Southeast Asia through war and colonization, and by exploiting its labor and resources—have the capacity to process contaminated plastic waste, but because it’s expensive, they instead export the burden to Southeast Asia, which has far less means.

They’re just like the begpacker, who has the capacity to fund their trip with their own money but instead chooses to leverage their white privilege and exploit the kindness of Southeast Asian locals, and ends up draining rather than boosting the economy for the sake of personal “adventure.”

They’re just like the sweatshop-owning corporation, who has the capacity to pay a living wage and provide safe working conditions but instead chooses to exploit and abuse Southeast Asian labor because turning a profit is more important than valuing Asian lives.

They’re just like the sexpat, who has the capacity to pursue a romantic partner who is a peer but instead chooses to prey on desperate or even trafficked or underaged Southeast Asian victims because they expect no consequences for their depraved and violent behavior, and usually receive none.

These are only recent examples of the ongoing colonization of Southeast Asia. Southeast Asians around the world have long been regulated to positions of service/servitude such as maids, nannies, and nurses. We’re expected to clean up privileged people’s trash because we are seen as trash.

So when we talk about climate change, it’s not enough to call it a crisis—it’s a climate apartheid. We’re not all suffering equally and that’s by design. Southeast Asia and other countries who are majority Brown or Black are being hit first and worst thanks to white/waste supremacy.
