Today is my birthday, and I was craving Chinese takeout. But my partner and I have pivoted away from eating out since 2020, and I wasn’t sure if we could make it at home. Lo Mein and behold, we did it! Our chicken lo mein, veggie egg rolls, sweet and sour chicken, and crab rangoon all tasted amazing—just like takeout. 😋 This cooking journey reminds me of my art journey. At first, cooking more at home was a challenge. Adapting to change can sometimes feel like a loss. A lot has changed in my career—and things are changing even faster these days—but my creative spirit is a constant. So, here’s to encouraging you (and myself) to continue to nurture and protect it in the new year. 😊

The month of May has come to an end, and with it, both Asian and Pacific American Heritage Month and Mental Health Awareness Month. But our attention to such issues doesn’t have to stop there.
One of the issues that is often overlooked (or avoided) is the prevalence of Asian-Americans who inherit the trauma that comes from colonization, racism, and displacement. The initial trauma is damaging in and of itself, but when left untreated, it has the added effect of passing on to subsequent generations via epigenetic inheritance and learned behaviors.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. Through dialogue and healing, we can break the cycle.

One year ago, we adopted our second dog, Khutulun. It’s amazing to see how far she’s come since she showed up at our local rescue in very bad shape. My partner made a video to celebrate her journey and enemies-to-fluffers transformation with Pogi. 🥰 I named Khutulun after Genghis Khan's great-great granddaughter, a Mongol warrior princess renowned for defeating all of her male suitors in wrestling matches and amassing 10,000 horses as victory prizes. Our own Khutulun liked to wrestle her foster brother, who was 3x her size, and now Pogi gets to enjoy all the love. 😄 𝗖𝗪: Description and photos of animal harm from 0:06 to 0:20

By the way, I was asked on Patreon about the status of AMERICANIZASIAN and wanted to share my answer here as well. I didn’t want to give too many updates or details until it’s completely ready, but I can say I’ve made significant progress in finalizing the never-before-seen content that helps tie my online comic strips into an overall narrative. That new content takes a lot of work to prepare and draft (it’s much harder than I anticipated), but I’m so excited to share once it’s done because it’s becoming quite the book. Rest assured: AMERICANIZASIAN will be available in the near future. Please continue to bear with me as I work on finishing everything, and in the meantime, I hope you enjoy these Samson & Perla strips or other content I may post to remind everyone I’m alive! Happy Lunar New Year! In our house, we’re jokingly calling it the Luna New Year. I’m proud and excited to announce that my partner, Alexis, is about to publish her debut novel! LOVE IN THE OCCULT TRAUMATIC is a paranormal romance set for digital release on March 1st. I provided the cover art for the characters, and Alexis and I worked on the cover design together. Here’s what the story is about:

Heidi Bauer would give anything to not be able to read people’s memories. Yet every time she sees blood, she loses consciousness and gets a glimpse into the private inner worlds of the wound’s owner, tracing through the events that caused the injury—with frightening precision.
She can’t tell anyone this, of course. It’s bad enough that she has severe PTSD and hemophobia, but unexplained magical powers as well? She’d rather spiral into jobless poverty than admit the truth and risk getting locked up in some kind of mental institution.
That is, until she meets the handsome and caring Dr. Bùi Đức Khiêm. Despite Heidi’s intentions of telling no one her secret, she finds herself opening up to the psychiatrist better than her own therapist—in more ways than one.
And yet, while Dr. Khiêm may not have any powers, he’s hiding secrets of his own. So when a mysterious figure starts to stalk Heidi in pursuit of her hidden gift, it isn’t just her safety that’s threatened, but Khiêm’s too. Together, Heidi and Khiêm learn that not all wounds are visible—and healing them may cost one of their lives.
