And he still held her arm tight,  like he was scared she was going to fall. Ironically,  he  found  himself  remembering  back then when she was just a baby and Barbara Eileen would would call him at work, praising joyfully her first steps.  Jim didn’t get to witness Babs  learning how to walk,  and missed  several  other important events.  But hell,  it had felt even more exciting and emotional to see her take her first steps, for the second time. After  so  long  of  having lost this ability because of him, and the evil that James himself had brought into his family.              After all, he should’ve been the one                   to open the door that night.

“ Becky, take a seat, make yourself comfortable ” lately he had taken    the girl more into his family than ever, and there was only few people    he’d be comfortable bringing into his house. Jimmy was way younger    but he was hoping Becky and Babs could get along. 

“ Hell, I’m not the greatest cook, but I’ve got to keep the kids alive    while the wife is gone ” 

       He very well knew that every night couldn’t be pizza night.

       “Real” God knows it hurst to admit it, Jim had been telling himself            that it was a whim, a moment of lust and stress, not actual love, not           something so big. Sadly, it was. Sadly, he couldn't afford to love her. 

          “It's as real as it can be and that's what I'm afraid of” he also loved his            wife, right, right? Or was he just supposed to? Perhaps James was             starting to love the baby growing inside her, James Junior, as they had             decided to name him “Because I can't afford that”

   ”But- but- what if I do something wrong and your kids are like…     ruined forever? I don’t know how but you’ll regret having me     watch your kids after that!”

            “It's just one night, you'll see how they behave and then you'll tell               me if you want to keep doing it. Besides, Jimmy reads and Babs               is obedient. They go to bed early if they don't eat too much sugar.               In case of emergency, there are two patrols outside and the phone's               police line goes straight to the department”

            “How can you ruin my kids in less than twelve hours? Follow my               instructions and it'll be just fine”

               “Come on, Becky. You are the sweetest girl in the                  world and my kids are nice, you'll do just fine”

         “Well, it's just that sometimes Sarah has a big mouth,            you know... WAIT, by that I mean that sometimes she            says more than she's supposed to, not that, well-- you            know. I-- well, yes. Just checking”
