what’s your opinion on the recent roleplaying chattel slavery in America dispute?
The. what
Facepalms. Sorry 'Ro. Lol back in 2022 an AmRev rp started up and its died off quite a bit as a lot of people left/became inactive but like. Literally no one was rping chattel slavery wtf anon
@/georgewashington-official did. He has openly mentioned it in character and out of character, claiming that - and as - modern Washington he treated his slaves better than most others. In the past, he's brought up ic slave patrols and how he would do them, and even when roleplaying with others in a historical setting would openly have slaves played in the background. No tags or anything. Then the Admin would go as far to claim that Washington is only getting flack for being a white man and that slavery had nothing to do with race or color, because black people enslaved their own. Aka he has little to any understanding of American history with slavery, and generalized it with global slavery. He even openly admitted this as a German, claiming that he is far from America's issues.
Overall, arrogant. As an Austrian, I know damn well not to talk about a country's history in a whole other continent without proper research. ESPECIALLY a long history including enslavement, genocide, torture, cultural cleansing, etc.
as an OG mod who lives in a place in europe where xenophobia and racism is sadly common i can conform that getting yourself educated on the topic of chattel slavery is really NOT that hard, ESPECIALLY when you are dealing with history that takes place in and with people that took part in with it. google is free. you learn the basics in school. you also have (i would hope) common sense.
the fact whether or not chattel slavery (or any form of slavery for that matter) should or should not be roleplayed in a lighthearted setting with no tags no warnings as an actual DISCUSSION is actually mindboggling. the answer is simple: its disrespectful to people who may just stumble upon it by accident, its racist to try to defend these horrible people from history, its racist to defend any of this bs and its racist to act like everyone else is wrong and weird for telling you that all of this is really not it.
