More warhammer art, this time Konrad Curze.
this is why psykers don't get invited to dinner parties
Flesh is weak.
all I know about soul drinkers
i've come to the conclusion that my ideal 40k game would be like space marine 2 but you play as the tyranids
Which 40K Faction's Technology Is Just Boiling Water?
As we all know, all methods of power generation are just boiling water. Don't argue with me on this, everyone knows it. Will we finally be free from the tyranny of water in grim dark future of the 41st millennium? Probably not. But which faction is doing the most badly? LET'S FIND OUT!
N/A: Thorsty: The Tyranids are an exception to the whole premise of this dumb list because they don't generate power. All of their technology is organic and produces energy through its metabolism, the same as me and possibly you. However, having a metabolism does mean you need to consume a lot of water, so be like the tyranids and stay hydrated by stripping a planet of all biomass.
Free from the tyranny of water: Necrons generate energy by shoving tiny fractions of the space gods into big energy collection things, but as far as I can tell those are just direct energy conductors and as such completely bypasses the boiling water stage. Necrons get their own tier because they are spooky scary skeleton mans who no longer have any physical need for water and probably don't even remember it.
Powered by ghosts and/or screaming: I do not understand how Eldar technology works, and I suspect neither do they. From what I understand, there's something called an infinity circuit which is where all the souls of the dead Eldar live, which provides psychic power that animates their constructs made of wraithbone and then my eyes go crossed. The Dark Eldar can do similar things but they don't use soul magic, and seem to power their entire society on scream power like Monsters, Inc. I don't understand it, so it goes here.
Solarpunk utopia: The Tau have big solarpunk vibes. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if most of their power needs were met by wind turbines, hydroelectric power or photovoltaic solar power, all of which generate electricity without needing to boil the water. That said, they probably need some kind of fusion power in space, and advanced solar power does fall back on big turbines, so there's probably some water being boiled that they don't talk about.
A moderate amount of water: The Leagues of Votann probably use highly advanced and efficient fusion power, but all that just means that they have the most advanced and efficient way of boiling water. They might be advanced enough to use matter-antimatter reactions or zero-point energy, but they wouldn't be space dwarves without the urge to use the antimatter reactor to power a big steam turbine.
So much water: All technology in the Imperium of Man is powered by boiling water. All of their technology is broken down and nobody understands how it works, and all the IT in the galaxy is run by a cult of cyber-monks who live in a planet-sized factory with a big dragon at the center that they probably use to boil a fuckton of water to turn the massive gears they have in the backgrounds of their character art. A thousand psykers are shoveled into the Emperor's fancy golden toilet each day and use their mind powers to boil water for him. I'm throwing Chaos in here too because most of their technology is the same as the Imperium, but with more space daemons. Genestealers are also here because they're just stealing the Imperium's catalytic converters.
ALL DA WOTA!: The orks boil more water than every other faction in the imperium combined. Ork technology goes through steampunk and out the other side, ending up in like, steam-progressive-folk-nu-metal. Orks know that boiling water means more power, but they don't understand how it makes power, so they just have big vats of boiling water that somehow power everything, no turbines involved. It also doubles as a municipal swimming pool.
What’s your flavor of blorbo? Mine is tau! I wanna guess Orks, but just wanted to be sure.
Ha ha! Yes, I do love me some Orks.
That said; Genestealers were the xenos who got me into 40k, so they'd be my personal blorbo.
The one Genestealer I have painted... I need to tweak my photo set up, but you get the idea :3
Heads or tails
As I continue to read thru Fulgrim (the Graham McNeil one), I have come to the unfortunate conclusion that not a single 30k character except maybe Erebus would survive a horror movie.
Oh Fulgrim. You are not final girl material.
Just posted a few new pages to my Patreon sketchbook!
Random bits from Steve Parker's Deathwatch: Shadowbreaker that I found interesting (part 1).
If I lived in WH40K I would definitely be springing for the bone-etched pentagrammic anti-psyker wards.
Cross-species fwenship 🥺
Maybe instead of assuming your way is better you could grow a backbone when it comes to unfair prices? ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
More condescension...
Y i k e s lady. Get a hobby.
OK but that is an interesting question. I'm guessing more fire and water caste are rebelling. Fire caste cuz they were bored af on that planet with no pne to fight, water caste because the mental flexibility required to constantly adapt to new cultures' mindsets might leave one more open to questioning current dogma.
So are genestealer hybrid births being always fatal a Tau-specific problem? Because this hasn't been mentioned anywhere else that I've read (and most GSC books are about genestealers in human society). IIRC Sister Etelka reproduced with a purestrain and was around to see her child reach adulthood (and there are probably loads of other examples).
This seems like it would be a problem demographically for Tau GSCs because if it's true then they can't get multiple births out of a 1st gen cultist/convert. They're also losing whatever other skills/use the birthmother would have had for the cult.
Like ig maybe once you have a descendant generation and no longer need to rely on pure genestealer/pure human reproduction pairs that problem would go away. But still.
(I should probably check my GSC codex to see if there's anything on this.)
Yeah she's terrible.
Awww.
More 40k lessons: never go swimming.
Oh wait, it's all turning around!
He'll be okay! 👍
I'm 70% of the way through this book yet it still feels like I'm in the beginning. That's an interesting quality.
(It has sequels, so that's probably why, but lots of trilogies *don't* have that feeling. Maybe because of their sense of pacing/tension and the amount of threads being wrapped up in one book.)
Imperial Fists space marine. India ink and colored pencils, it's old. I found my old art supplies again.
Lmao at this Ultramarine acting like he's about to frow up looking at this Scar Lord.
Imagine being from a normal chapter (as far as Space Marines go) and having to deal with the antics of the weirder ones.
Scar Lords: "Actually we think being visibly mutilated and drooling all over is cool af. Totally metal. I saw a guy missing his nose once and nearly jizzed in my power armor :)"
Unfinished Abelard that was supposed to be the first frame of the next comic, but I changed my mind.
So now he is praying that the damn Interrogator trips on his cape and breaks his neck I guess
