Holy Moly! It's been a very long time. I'm alive but real life got the best of me over the past few years. I haven't written in a very, very, very long time. See all the requests in my in-box and all of your kind words is a huge inspiration. I won't make any promises but maybe I'll start writing again. A certain ADA has been intruding my thoughts...
every fallout trailer ever: cheery advertisement or music playing on an old television screen or radio as the camera slowly zooms out to reveal the Dark Bad landscape of the wasteland, music still plays, echoing off in the distance. War. War never changes. power armor. fuck a deathclaw. get dirt up your ass. Fallout ⚡️
I love how all of the Batman villains are like “ah he’s not at the manor, it’s defenseless! and then alfred just racks an AK-47 and is like pull up bitch
Shades of grey. Some were darker, some brighter but the world was simply black and white to Billy and he’d resigned himself to that fact. He didn’t believe that there was one person meant for everyone and that when you found that other half you’d get a burst of color. The world would look entirely different. Colors were a myth in his book, same as soul mates. His view was forcibly changed when he watched his best friend meet his soul mate and saw both Frank and Karen stumble through introductions as they both looked around at the world in awe.
That had been a couple years ago and by now Billy was simply convinced he just didn’t have a soul mate. Not like it mattered to him. He owned a successful business and had women lined up that didn’t care if they could see the blue of the sky or the yellow of a sunflower from meeting him. True there were times he’d overhear Frank and Curtis describe the color of something and have a twinge of jealousy but he told himself that he was just tired of being an odd man out.
Billy glanced up from the paperwork spread across his desk to realize he had to leave the office soon to make the dinner reservation time with Frank and Karen. He pushed away from his desk and grabbed his jacket before turning the lights off on his way out. He’d deal with finishing up the paperwork the following day.
“Goodnight Mr Russo” Burkley the front desk security spoke as he walked past and Billy nodded to him “Goodnight”
He walked out to his car and stared at his own reflection for a moment vaguely wondering what the color of his tie truly looked like. After a moment he shook his head of any foolish thoughts and climbed into his car. He had a lot more to worry about than colors.
------
You looked over your reflection once more as you turned in front of the mirror. The older lady at the store had assured you that the color of it looked amazing with your hair color. She’d been married to her soul mate for over fifty years. You had to admire the irony because to you the dress and your hair alike were simply different shades of grey. You’d yet to meet that person who would spur the burst of color into your life and although you didn’t really care at times you second guessed if it would ever happen.
You double checked the time and realized you had to get going if you were going to meet Erika on time.
You grabbed your jacket then headed downstairs to hail a cab to the bar she wanted to meet at. Hopefully she wouldn’t flake out this time.
------
You climbed out of the cab after paying the driver and headed for the sidewalk in front of the bar. There was a restaurant next door and had it not been for a fact you knew it required a reservation you would have headed inside to grab a quick bite.
“Hey there sweetheart” you heard, slurred and cut your eyes up to see a couple guys in the alley between the bar and felt your heart speed up. Christ where the hell was Erika? Best to ignore them right?
You walked closer to the restaurant but heard one of them say “Stuck up bitch. Bet I could fuck a better mood into her” you heard their footsteps and tried to make it to the door of the restaurant but they moved a lot faster than their drunken state should’ve allowed. “C’mon baby wanna have a good time tonight” one spoke a little too close to your face as he spun you around your back hitting the wall hard enough to knock the breath out of you.
“Fuck off asshole” you growled kneeing him in the crotch. He went down giving you a bit of breathing room but before you could get away the other had hit you hard enough your vision went blurry.
------
Billy pulled up to the curb next to the restaurant and spotted the three guys with you shoved up against the wall between the restaurant and the bar next door. He barely threw his car into park before jumping out.
He grabbed the first guy and slammed him head first into the wall then spun to meet the next one’s punch which he easily side stepped. His punch however landed solidly and the drunk crumpled to the sidewalk. By this time the noise had pulled the bouncer’s attention out of the bar so he grabbed the third and told Billy to check on you while he called the police.
You had slid down the wall with one arm over your face protectively while the other was holding the hem of your dress down. It made him sick to think about what could have happened if he hadn’t come along when he did. “C’mon ma’am they aren’t gonna lay another hand on you” he promised gently touching your shoulder.
The moment you raised your eyes to meet his it was as if the world stopped. The burst of color made you both take in a deep breath. “Oh my god” you whispered, taking his offered hand as he helped you to your feet. The two of you stood there staring at each other as if you were the only people left in New York.
“Ma’am are you ok?” the bouncer asked and you nodded, never taking your eyes off the man who had saved you, your soulmate. “I’m ok” The bouncer took you at your word choosing to round up the drunks for the cops instead. Your soulmate gave you a smile that made your knees weak “Name’s Billy Russo” You shook yourself out of the shock you’d just been given to offer your hand “Y/N Y/L/N” he shook your hand but you noticed he was looking over you and realized it was nowhere near predatory or even sexual.
He was making sure the three men hadn’t hurt you. “I’m really ok Billy” you promised in a whisper. He smiled a bit gentler this time “I like how my name sounds coming from you” he motioned to the restaurant “I’m meeting my buddy and his girl, want to join us?” “I don’t want to impose” you replied and he shook his head “You’re my soulmate Y/N. You’d never impose on anything I’m involved in” you nodded then held your hand out “then lead the way” he took your hand then looked back at the bouncer “Let NYPD know I want every charge possible placed on these three assholes” the bouncer nodded and got Billy’s name and contact number before Billy led you into the restaurant.
------
Frank glanced up when he spotted Billy and noticed you behind him. Karen raised an eyebrow “Billy who’s this?” Billy looked from Frank to Karen before saying “This is Y/N..my soulmate”
Karen stood to pull you into a hug while Frank clapped Billy on the shoulder "Told you she was out there man" you and Billy shared a look before you said "He um just saved me too"
After you and Billy recounted the horror you'd just endured Karen told you how she'd met Frank which included Mob members and her being shot at. You raised your glass of tea and said "Here's to unconventional meets for soulmates" "And here's to what the future may bring" Billy added with a wink to you.
conversations about homelessness would be a lot less time consuming if people agreed that homeless ppl deserve housing no matter what and not just when they're upstanding citizens ....... a lot of housed people you know are already doing the things you think homeless people should lose potential housing for....... including you probably!
