“Would it be even stranger for me to say I don’t know if I’m an alien? The androids from my home say we were built by aliens, but I’ve never even seen one! Or a human, for that matter. But, the androids know much more than I do…So I suppose they would know better….” They trail off for a moment, clearly lost in their own tangle of clarifications.
“Aren’t we all aliens here, though?” Pascal gestures to the ghostly figures once more, “They were here first, after all.”
They realize only after they’ve started to do it that they were also slightly swinging their legs alongside hers, her enthusiasm infectious. Pascal’s copy of the movement is more stilted, more like they were raising their leg and letting it fall than a ‘swing’.
“So you can transfer your consciousness into this suit without your core?” They say, and their eyes shift slightly, like a pair of binoculars twisting in to fit someone’s face more adequately, “That’s quite amazing! You have two fascinating bodies, Hajime!”
Pascal nods, a note of pride and congratulation in their voice.
“Woah, that’s true!” Hajime says, straightening with the force of her surprise. “I guess we’re all aliens somewhere, huh?” And she smiles over at Pascal, eyes bright. “That’s such a fun way to look at it, I never thought of that.” She considers then their other question, curious at their phrasing. She taps a finger against her chin, humming softly as she thinks.
“Mm, kind of? It’s more like putting on new clothes, I guess.” She smiles. “My core... my heart is still there, and it’s all one body. It’s like... hmmmm...”
“Oh!” A thought occurs to her, and she pulls her NOTE out of her pocket, hopping to her feet. “Here! I can just show you!” She manages to stay still, somehow, as she steps in front of Pascal, and then she holds out the small notebook in her hand, covered in stickers. “You ready, Pascal? Okay! Biiiiird, go!”
In a flash, she’s changed. It’s a momentarily blinding array of lights around her, and then the only neon glow is emanating from various points on her body. Still shaped like a person, but decidedly mechanical now. And very pink. Hajime turns a glowing blue gaze to Pascal.
“See? Just like some new clothes!”
