Grateful for prayers
2013 I posted a year of daily gratitudes (minus a few days, I came pretty close). I hope fellow tumblers found a few moments of inspiration. I didn't ask for anything in return. Now I am asking.... With four kids in college, all nearing interviews and careers, the stress level in my life is very high. Please say a prayer for peace, direction and wisdom. I am running on empty in all those areas.
Dec 31:Gratitude:completion
This is the end of one year's worth of posting gratitudes. I challenged myself to be grateful for one thing everyday for a year, and post those gratitudes in hopes of inspiring others to be grateful as well. I found it to be a challenge, personally. Not sure if it inspired anyone else. Thanks to those of you who shared a few comments. I am grateful for a log of many gratitudes! Maybe I will begin a journal, who knows? May our next year be full of MANY gratitudes!!! Happy New Year!!! What are you grateful for?
Dec. 29 & 30:Gratitude:Thank you notes
Action-thank you notes. The holidays may be over, but shouldn't be forgotten. Now is the time to write a few thank you notes - to grandparents for presents, to the hosts of the family gathering, for that surprise gift. And I don't mean a text or email, I mean a snail mail, written in your hand, piece of parchment, that says you took the time to say thanks. I am grateful to be the receiver of many blessings during the holidays. I think it us important for people in my life to KNOW they have been a part of that blessing. I am writing noted and pushing my kids to do the same. Who should you write a note to?
Dec 25 & 26:Gratitude:Leisure
Action-Rest. After stacking a few boxes, I basically read a book for two days. That is not my usual activity level, but there is something to be said about leisure. I am grateful for "Stephanie Plum" and a good mystery. Reading is a healthy activity we should all do more of. What is your next read?
Dec 25:Gratitude:Love
Action-Love. My spiritual journey has helped me learn the point of religion is to know love and give love. We celebrate Jesus' birth as a baby in Christmas. EVERYONE loves a baby. Maybe that is the real message of Christmas. We should love one another as much as we love a tiny babe. Is love easy? No. But if we give love as easily as we give gifts, we are bound to get love in return. I am grateful for the love of family and the love of a Power even greater than I can comprehend. May the love if Christmas be a gift you give and get. Who can you love?even if it is only yourself, love someone today.

Action - I had a few people on my list that needed a little something but I didn't want to create that "now I have to give them a gift" dilemma. Solution - mini loaves of pumpkin bread. Lets them know they are loved... I am grateful for food that feeds our bodies and feeds our soul. Who can you bake for?
Dec 20:Gratitude:Shopping local
Action-shopping local. I did some local shopping that included awesome "Christmas presents" made of glass blocks, Christmas lights and bows, and handmade candies from a local ice cream shop. Both were money well spent. I am grateful for the talents of others that bless my life. It's a win for everyone! Where can you shop local?
Dec 19Gratitude:holiday greetings
Action-holiday greetings. While doing a little shopping, today, I made a point to share a few "Merry Christmas," and "thank you," comments with the cashiers and Salvation Army bell ringers (remember - donations ALWAYS). They were so grateful for a kind moment as shoppers get cranky. I am grateful a brief statement can brighten someone's day. Service workers should NOT be treated as invisible and without feelings. Will you be a gracious shopper?
Dec 18:Gratitude:gift wrapping
Action - gift wrapping. While staying at my mom's, who had some major dental work done, I spent time helping her wrap presents for the holidays. It gave me a chance to think about each person for a few moments. I am grateful we have gifts to give, and people we care enough about to share the holidays with. Who can you give a gift?
Dec 15:Gratitude:Giving Tree
Today we took items to church for the "Giving Tree." Items go to the local pantry to be distributed to needy children. It is nice to give to those you don't know while you are shopping for those you love. I am grateful to spread a little love to those who may not feel loved at the holidays. Even if it is the Salvation Army kettle, who can you give to?
Dec 14:Gratitude:Troops
Action-cards Today our 4-H Club participated in the local community Santa visit. We hosted a table where children could decorate a card for a member of the armed forces. I am grateful kids were willing to spend some time doing something nice for someone they have never met. Can you send a card to someone who serves?
Dec 13;Gratitude:Hugs
Saw a friend of mine who recently lost hero they to cancer. This will be her first Christmas without her. I could tell she needed a short chat and a long hug. So I did both in the drug store. I am grateful God puts us in the right place at the right time to give people a lift when they need it. Who can you hug to make their day better?
Dec 12:Gratitude:prayer
Action - prayer. While traveling today, I saw two ambulances in route. These moments always cause me to pause mentally and emotionally. I take a few moments to say a prayer for healing and grace for the patient and strength and wisdom for the medical staff. America has amazing health care. I am grateful I have access to that health care and not much cause to use it. Are you grateful for your health?
Dec 10: Gratitude:Donation
Trying to plan for Christmas. Starting point? Out with the old, before in with the new. I took 3 boxes and 4 bags to a local shelter to be redistributed to those in need. Did it take a hunk of time out of my day? Yes. Was it worth it? Yes. I am grateful to have the opportunity to share with those less fortunate. No matter where you are in life, there is always someone in greater need than you. What can you donate to help someone else?
Dec 5:Gratitude:Bake sale
Action-bake sale. Participated in a Midwest town Christmas Walk. Only 2,500 people in Carthage, IL, and I swear EVERYONE came out! I was next to the freshman class bake sale. Pretty sure I paid for their next activity. I am grateful to experience what a "community" can be. So awesome to watch everyone greet each other. Are you part of a "community?"

Action. After focusing on gratitudes for a year and especially November, I am putting thoughts into action. Giving is a big part of December. I am working on making my giving about positive actions. Today I attended a Fair Trade shopping event. I am grateful for opportunities to make purchases "give back" while I am giving. How will you plan your holiday shopping?
Nov 27:Gratitude:Religion
Religion. Whether you like it or not, America really was founded on the cause of religious freedom. The Pilgrim's sacrificed a lot to venture to a place where they could worship as they saw fit. I am grateful to be a part of a religious group. There are MANY benefits to myself and others as we share our blessings. Will you be grateful for religion as you celebrate Thanksgiving?
