“I see. I will see what we have in containment and pass it along. I will allow testing, but I want updates on your design. You may want to speak with Nero as he has done some rather impressive redesigning of weapons. He may be able to assist in creating both a functional and effective device.”

“Yes sir, of course,” he agreed with a nod, making a note to find and talk to Nero soon about a new device to administer his new formula, given it works. “Any other guidelines or rules sir?”

“But it doesn’t go all the way around.” She said in almost defense. “It depends on how hard I focus. Emotions are strong and tricky things. I better be really passionate about living if it ever comes to a battle.” Nala teases a bit. “It also kinda works by blowing kissing that are filled with certain emotions. Like cupid.”

“What are you passionate now?” he asked curious, still investigating her shield. “I mean if you need to be passionate about living for it to work in battle you must be passionate about something now right?”

“Do you have any designs for a delivery devices at this time? Are you ready to start live testing? Is there a certain type of meta you are in need of? As in are there powers you think you will have more of a challenge incapacitating more than others? Do you want a physical based or mental based or will you be in need of both?”

“I don’t have any designs now but I could come up with something with some time,” Alex offered before considering Lucien’s like of questions. “I am ready for live testings. I will most likely to do some more tweaking to the formula but I can begin as soon as a subject is available. I believe a meta with physical abilities would be more help since it would be easier to measure the affects of the formula.”

“Wh-What?” Alex was in shock. “Why would I do that? Do you realize how unsanitary that is? That might ruin my test results!”

“I think there is potential.” Lucien said looking over the notes finding the work to be well documented. “Will this be something that will replace the solution in the neuralring or will you be making a new device?” He asked as the finite details always mattered a great deal to him. “The test subjects will depend on the need for your research in comparison to others. I will be splitting them out by importance to CARMA as a whole. If needed I will pull subjects from lesser projects to put them on those that are deemed of high importance. I will advise you if and when test subjects will be available for your work.”

“I was thinking of replacing the solution but if this new formula is more fast acting and long lasting it might be a good idea to make a new device. One that’s easier to apply to a metahuman.” Alex suggested before listening to Lucien’s plan for test subjects, hoping his research was deemed important enough.  His plan in the long run was to find a way to permanently block a metahuman’s powers for those deemed too dangerous without a chip or other invasive procedures. Even a powerless meta still had uses.

“Just for testing regarding my research,” Quinn clarified with a smile as she watched her colleague grab her that sample. “This Meta had a Metahuman enhancement I’d like to study, see if I can incorporate it into my Meta Steroid serum.”

“That sounds interesting, I look forward to seeing you make it work,” Alex gave Quinn a smile before walking over to her with the sample. “Here you are Dr. Parker, one sample. If you need anything else to help with your research I’d be happy to help.” Science was a team effort after all.

“Awesome, take your time,” Kaden said with a small smirk, leaning against the doorframe as he waited. He glanced around, his brow arched. “So whatcha workin’ on in here, doc?”

“I’m working on a new formula for the nerualrings. This should last longer than what we have now,” he explained as he cleaned up the area. “I just need some subjects to test it on.”

Nala smirked a bit, rolling her eyes  at his teasing before kissing her hand and waving her arm in a larger circle to then create a pink shield. It was like Plexiglas, tinted rose pink with a darker center that looked like metal had been colored. Rivets going around the outside of the center metal piece. The whole thing a pink mess that covered her from head to toe, as well as a large area to either side. “I can’t hear your jokes about blowing kisses behind my kiss projection that can make both solid and immaterial things …and a bit more.”

Alex’s eyes widened slightly, seeing the shield form. “Amazing,” he breathed as he moved closer to get a better look. “It looks like a hamster ball,” he laughed a little before tapping at the shield with his pen, curious how strong it was. “Do you know how much force it can stand up to or does that depend?”

“I have the time now Dr. Crane. By all means I’ll accompany you to your lab.” Lucien said nodding for the other to lead the way. That was another announcement he’d have to make of standardizing laboratory areas. Personal items had no place in a lab. He liked order and would have ever lab in order.

He nodded and began leading the way to his lab. “I think I can begin testing with live subjects soon,” he said as he gathered his notes for Lucien to look over. “If you approve of my work so far that is. This solution is supposed to be stronger than what’s in the neuralrings now. I figured it would be best to have a few subjects with at least three tests. One without any solution hindering their abilities, one with the neuralrings, and one with my new solution. I would scan their brain activities during the process to map the differences.” He paused for a moment letting the new head take it in before asking, “What do you think?”

Research and Development team

As your new head of research and development I expect an update on current research pursuits. Advise test subjects, areas of study and goals. All will be evaluated and you will be advised if such pursuits are useful for CARMA’s future state. Scientist not meeting or exceeding goals set will be given one warning. Continued failure will lead to a probationary period and eventual termination. You have one week to provide the required information.

Alex nodded hearing the new plan. “Of course, I think this is a very productive policy. I can bring my notes and test results to your office later, if you’d like. Or I can show you now. I’m currently working on a new, longer lasting compound for the Neuralrings.”

Nala smiled, proud of her work and honestly how into all of it Alex seemed to be. “ There’s a bit more.. Some may need your help again though.” She says with a laugh before specifying the manifestations. “Oh- well I change them all the time. Rage can be a girl but I normally make her a man, same for the others. They’ve got no face so I guess it honestly doesn’t matter. It’s whatever my brain wants to do.” Nala shrugs. “Just tell me when you’re ready because aside from the kiss projection- the rest are something I need volunteers for.”

He nodded again. “I’ll be glad to help however I can,” he offered, excited to see every aspect of her power especially if he got a personal hand in it. “Kiss projection?” he repeated hearing another ability. “That sounds like it could be dangerous, or is it really just you blowing someone a kiss because I think most people can do that.” He flashed her a teasing smile.

Norman chuckled with a smile. “She is a pet; simple as that.” Norman replied. “I have a question for you.” The man hummed, cocking his head at Alex.

“I encourage people to ask as many questions as they can,” Alex nodded. “Whether or not I know the answer depends on the question. So what is your question?”

“Oh totally.” She teases, playing along with him. “They’ll be so jealous but I’ll be the lucky one that gets to take you home- or at least- share the same limo to possibly different destinations.” 

“Isn’t it? They change color depending on emotion. Normally love is purple- and normally a girl, but I like the big burly guy for red, and green is envy and that’s a guy, sadness is a girl normally…” She spouts before shrugging a bit. “I’ve got more if you wanna see..”

“Interesting,” Alex repeated and wrote down more notes, he had already filled up five pages in the short amount of time he had been there. It was hard not to though, Nala and her abilities were so fascinating to him. “I would love to see more,” He nodded. “Now can you influence their appearance or is that predetermined by something else?”

Nala rolled her eyes for a moment. “A guy like you.” She repeated with air quotes. “Would be perfect for a gala. You’re smart, look good in a suit and I’m sure my father wouldn’t hate the idea of you working for CARMA.. Oddly enough.” 

“It is- and scaring people too.” Nala nods, the red figure then tapped Alex’s shoulder and crossed its arms back over its chest. “It’s an emotion.. Normally you wouldn’t be able to touch it, but you’d sure feel it.” She laughs a moment, making the figure walk to her side.

“I see, I’m just very intelligent arm candy,” he mused with a small shake of is head. “To schmooze everyone else at this soiree? Share my vast vaults with knowledge with everyone. All the girls will be jealous of you for bagging a winner.”

Alexander jumped a little seeing the anger creature, not expecting its sudden appearance. “Fascinating,” he muttered and started making a sketch of the beast in his book for later research. “That makes a lot of sense I guess.” He nodded, still curious how it worked on a more physical level.

“Oh trust me- I already knew knowledge would be a block with you.” She jokes slightly serious for a moment. “But yeah- I’d love to. I have a gala I’m supposed to go to soon, maybe you can come with, hm?” Nala asks with her brows raised for a moment. Her face lit up as he asked her about her powers again. “I manipulate passion in all forms.. Love, desire, sex.. and knowledge if someone likes it enough.” She said nodding to him a moment. “I can do many things like make a big rage monster.” Her eyes moving to the red  figure now behind him. “That one is normally the one that saves me from fights. It can touch you- but you can’t touch it.”

“A gala? Really? You’d want to bring a guy like me to a gala?” he chuckled quietly at the thought. “I’d be honored to accompany you to your fancy function.” As she explained her abilities Alexander wrote it all down, word for word, excited to see it in action some day.

“This is amazing,” he grinned and perked up hearing about her ‘rage monster.’ “That does sound like it would be helpful in a fight,” he agreed. “Do you know why someone can’t touching it but it can touch them?” Perhaps it could become intangible at will? Or perhaps it was something else. There was just so much he wanted to know about her powers.

“I dont.” Norman replied simply. “Agent Iska was kind enough to train the beast to not make those terrible screeching noises when it is separated from its mate as well as how to properly act around superior beings.” Norman replied. “I am just wondering if people have been ensuring the lesson stuck.”

“Well I haven’t checked on her in a while so I wouldn’t know. My focus here is not to train metahumans, I believe that is Ms. Sinclair’s division.” Alex shrugged as he put away tissue samples of the brain he was working on. “Although I do find it amusing how everyone is so enamored with her. Like children with a new puppy.” Sure he had been excited at first too but after spending some time with her he realized she was no different than a freak show attraction. While she was an interesting sample genetics wise, she had no interesting abilities like other metahumans.
