It’s been a week since she found his boxed up shrine to Peyton – a week since she decided to box up her own feelings – a week since she’s officially willed herself to forget about opening that chapter again ( their chapter ) – she’s made her peace with it. Just when she thought that there was maybe a spark of something – that maybe he was feeling the same way she was…again – that maybe her heart was finally healed from the first time he broke it – that maybe she was willing to give him another chance to hold it ( ever so gently ) in the palm of his hand, it all comes crashing down around her. Only a few more weeks. it’s a mantra she repeats over & over again in her head. She’ll be off to California for the summer ( maybe FOREVER ) – & as much as she doesn’t want to leave ( & god, she really doesn’t want to ), having some space from this whole thing ?? It’s appealing, to say the least. She’s curled up in the blankets that over a year ago, she shared with him – on the bed where she’d spent many an afternoon forgetting that there was a world outside of the two of them, when she hears a knock at the door. It’s LATE – Karen surely can’t be up now. It’s faint, however – maybe she’s just imagined it. It’s then that the door opens & even without opening an eye, she knows it’s Lucas. What surprises her is how he sits at the side of the bed, his words a mere whisper. She’s still not fully convinced that she isn’t dreaming.
“Hey you,” she yawns, a sleepy sort of smile tugging at her lips. Despite it all, seeing him still has that effect on her. She doesn’t HATE him – not in the slightest. He LOVES Peyton. She gets it – she does too. How could he not ?? “–everything okay ??”
