Honestly wtf is going on in her head. This man has openly admitted to viewing pornography from a website that is basically borderline slavery roleplay. This is a website that specifically focused on “taming” black women through sexual violence, the fact that he was even aware of its existence is fucking vile.

I tried reaaaaaally hard not to jump the gun on forming an opinion on this. The last time she was involved in a controversy, I formed an opinion too quickly and was very wrong. So, this time I wanted to be careful. However, there’s enough information out there at this point and enough actions on Taylor’s part for me to feel comfortable being super disappointed by this.

It’s clear Taylor is aware to an extent about his past, it’s also clear that she’s deliberately making this relationship very public. So she’s willing to ignore the fact that he’s a misogynist and a racist, and it feels like she’s expecting the fans should do the same. It’s kind of disrespectful to assume fans would be willing to overlook his (very recent) actions.

This whole thing really undermines any work she’s done to be considered a feminist. You really can’t try to rehab the image of a dude who clearly has issues with black women and then expect everyone to believe you’re a feminist. If your morals don’t apply to your personal life, then it’s all for show.

Anyway, I hope she gets her shit together and actually does something to redeem herself from this. It’s not enough to breakup with him, she’s gonna need to do something to show she understands the hurt she’s caused to her black fans. This isn’t going to end her career by any means, but she is going to lose a large majority of her non-white and left leaning fan base.

I gotta say I commend Taylor for not staying in a relationship that wasn’t what was best for either of them. There’s so much pressure to settle down in your 30’s and walking away from a long term relationship nun your 30’s would be hard. But as a gal who is single in her 30’s, it’s refreshing to see Taylor choose herself over what is expected of her in this area of life.

okay but despite everything, Taylor’s bravery to decide to end a relationship which she was clearly very committed to is commendable and it highlights the immense growth she’s had as a person.

i guess i just always assumed joe was largely unfazed by taylor’s level of fame from the way she’s described him and their dynamic in songs so to hear that it was a factor in their disconnect hurts even though it’s completely understandable
