It’s probably better I don’t get the caffeine in the first place so you probably just saved me.” she laughed, “Understandable–late night last night?” she asked.

‘’ well, i’d have to admit that today’s the first — and hopefully last — time it happened.’’ he admitted with a sheepish smile. ‘’ i guess you’re the lucky one.’’ greg chuckled, putting the cup down on the counter. ‘’ baristas and doctors are impossible to read their writing.’’ he agreed with her. ‘’ it depends, if you have a long day, i’d strongly suggest for you to order a cup of coffee, because i don’t think falling asleep in the middle of the day is very smart.’’ gregory pointed out. ‘’ but if you only ordered one because you are used to, then you don’t need it.’’ he shrugged. ‘’ yes, late night and early morning.’’ he added.

she’d know that voice anywhere, is the fucked up thing. “oh, dios mio,” natalie breathed, freezing as she turned away from the customer she’d just been serving. she was the only server nearby and therefore the only one who could help him. the shitty thing was, she didn’t want too — serving the father of her child who coincidentally did not know he was father was nowhere near anywhere on her bucket list. swallowing roughly, natalie turned and plastered on a fake smile, looking at greg. “my apologies.” she exhaled sharply. how unready she was for the full on assault of seeing him again since she found out she was pregnant. “i’ll, uh — just take that and go find your actual coffee.”

his blue eyes scrutinized the white cup, as if he’d guess to who it would belong to by reading a random name. as he heard his waitress speak he looked up. the brunette looked awfully familiar. he had certainly had seen her before. his eyebrows furrowed into a frown. ‘’ it’s no problem.’’ he brushed it off, still trying to figure out who she was. ‘’ i don’t mean to be rude, but do i know you?’’ he asked, biting his lip. greg remembered seeing her in miami? what was she doing here? at least, now, he remembered her name. ‘’ natalie, right?’’ he said, noticing the small metallic pin on her uniform, with her name written on it.

it was a bit early for her standards, she’d practically rolled out of her bed and into the floor this morning and she was still feeling the effects of staying up all night to finish a sketch and perhaps her awareness was a little hindered as she groggily ordered her usual morning coffee. however, she went from sleepy to full-blown alert in a split second; calista watching in horror at her precious latte falling into the hands of some guy practically hugging the counter, that certainly didn’t fit the typical coffeeshop-goer persona and lifting it right up to his mouth. she raised her hand in defeat after he finished his spiel, waving it around lazily in the air. “yeah, hi — that’d probably be mine,” she announced, lips thinning into a toothless smile as she carded a hand through her hair. “although i’m glad to see my drink’s helping expand your coffee repertoire; french vanilla is the way to go, after all.” calista stepped forward, her hand outstretched for her drink.

greg’s eyes immediately looked to the direction of the voice. he smiled apologetically at the raven haired girl. ‘’ yeah, i think that’s yours.’’ he agreed licking his lips. gregory didn’t find himself if many awkward situations. when he did, he’d tell a joke and the problem would be solved, but this time he didn’t think a joke would fix it. ‘’ it is indeed, if it wasn’t for this accident, i’d never taste french vanilla.’’ greg admitted, the taste of the coffee still in his mouth. ‘’ but it’s an interesting choice.’’ he told her handing her the cup. ‘’ i’m sorry for taking the first sip of your drink, it was an accident. i can promise you that i don’t go around tasting other people’s drinks.’’ gregory chuckled. ‘’ also, expressos are more my thing, very quick and efficient.’’ he added.‘’ i can buy you another one if you want.’’

greg looked towards the girl. of course the coffee wasn’t his. ‘’ right.’’ he said dragged out. ‘’ i’m very sorry for not checking the name.’’ he apologized with a small smile. ‘’ i can buy you another one, if you want.’’ gregg suggested. ‘’ i’m sorry, i truly am. i was just eager to get my morning cup of caffeine.’’

greg was at the local coffee shop, waiting for his drink to be served. his arms crossed on his chest and serene look on his face made him blend in with the crowd. of course, he was a bit taller and bulkier than the other customers, but that was a minor detail. as soon as a warm cup was placed on the counter, he took it and drank from it. he made a grimace. ‘’ i know french vanilla isn’t that bad, but that was not what i ordered.’’ he looked at the white cup in his hands. ‘’ and it’s definitely not my name on this cup.’’
