Headcanons for how the gang reacts when they drop you off at college?
- The entire gang wants to witness this special moment of your life so they all try fitting themselves in the truck. Darry’s the driver, you’re in the passenger’s seat, Ponyboy’s behind you, Two-Bit’s behind Darry, and Soda, Steve, Dallas, and Johnny are chillin’ in the bed of the truck.
- Ponyboy gets all teary eyed when the truck drives up to the entrance of the college bc he’s emotional and cares about you a lot.
- Darry is incredibly proud of you, he’s the first to hug you goodbye. He holds you for a long while and tells you how good you’ll do and that if you ever need him, call him up as soon as possible. It’s an honor that you’re doing what he wished he could’ve done.
- Two-bit’s usual comical mood becomes serious and genuine. “You’ll do just fine, doll,” and he’ll stare up at the school before looking back at you and smiling. He’ll hug you before patting your back for reassurance that you’ll do well.
- Dallas hops out of the truck and walks over to you. “College, huh? It’s crazy how far you’ve gotten, man.” He’s a bit stunned that it’s actually happening and that all this time has passed. He warns that if anyone messes with you, he’ll take care of it. He also warns you to do good and to stick with it. Dallas prolly won’t admit it, but he’ll miss you a ton.
- Sodapop and Steve pull you into a tight group hug and Soda gets all teary eyed like Pony did. “You better be on top, you hear? Invite us to one of them college parties, I heard those are wild.” “You’ll do great, I bet. Man, I can’t believe this is actually happening…” and Soda keeps pulling you into hugs bc he’s so sad to see you go.
- Johnny is pretty bummed about you leaving, but he’s also happy for you. He saved a small gift for this special day. It’s a charm that he spent a lot of time making special for you so that you’d always be close to home in a sense. He claims it’s for good luck and comfort for when they can’t be there. “I’ll miss you a whole lot. You’ll turn out to be something great. Good luck out there.”
- Ponyboy is last to say goodbye to you and he hugs you so tight. Like, he’s trying his best not to cry and he’s hiding it well. Once he pulls away, he smiles warmly at you, “I don’t want to see you go, but this is a great opportunity. Do well out there, okay? Tell me how it is.”
