Darry Curtis (The Outsiders)

I decided there needs to be one of these blog things dedicated to my favorite character ever Darry, so here you go!

darry canonically checking over pony’s math homework is so sweet, but it’s so overlooked. like darry comes home every day after working long hours and he’ll still always stops to make sure pony’s homework is done correctly and thoroughly. if it’s not, he explains why it’s not, even if he’s a bit too harsh sometimes. he explains it in a way that makes sense to him, and he tries to adapt to pony’s learning style too. at the end of the day, darry still helps pony in any way he can despite his own exhaustion, and pony makes good marks in school, and darry watches him proudly.

So I'm making a series of illustrations of my fave books :D First - of course - The Outsiders which was the start of my digital art journey! And also I think the most fanart I've EVER drawn was The Outsiders <3 So it has a very special place in my heart and it always will.

I still have this thing I made in art class in 8th grade! I taped the red paper and pictures on this empty vhs case. Of course I put Darry's picture in the center on the back since he's my favorite!

Darry who gets extremely uncomfortable when he gets called “Mr. Curtis”

on the surface it’s just “oh no, Mr. Curtis was my father”

but it’s hurts for him, it’s a reminder that his dad’s gone, a reminder that he won’t come back, a reminder that he’ll never be able to be as good as his dad

most people are afraid of becoming their parents, Darry wishes he could be as good as they were

I was holding off listening to the songs from The Outsiders Musical until I could see it in person, but since it's not coming my way until next year, I decided I was definitely not waiting that long. I enjoyed the songs, and I'm so glad Darry gets a solo! :D

It's Outsiders Day! My old copy of the book is so worn out, so it's been nice to have the 50th anniversary edition. I've read it 17 times now.
