Nadia Comaneci herself wading into the controversy that’s how you KNOW somebody fucked up bad
@sunis-banana-vault she’s not wrong though. Whatever you think of Nadia, she (and NBC) is objectively correct here that there was no OOB, and therefore Sabrina should have beaten Jordan, credited Gogean or not.
during one of the replays i didnt see the heel come down but part of her foot (her toes) was barely oob when she turned so it makes sense that the sensor would count that as an oob even if it barely happened. Nadia also didnt go through the official inquiry process when this happened, she knows (or should know) that this is a field of play call (whatever tf you call it) so the CAS wont change anything (except if cecile made her inquiry outside the time limit). Its also kinda weird and frustrating that the romanians and 4 yr fans are acting like this wasnt anything but an honest mistake on relying on equipment they shouldnt have it feels like they are blowing things out of proportion and blaming the wrong people
The romanians did inquire the score though and it was rejected. Idk at what point Nadia got involved if before or after the inquiry. But if the officials are claiming they have proof she stepped out but not showing anyone that's an issue. No one being sure if there was a line judge watching video or if it was sensors is another issue.
Romanians are claiming the US inquiry was late and that's why it's going to CAS, no idea if that's true or not. It was weird Jordan's inquiry was never brought up during broadcast while Voineas was but idk. It was extremely chaotic and confusing.
I don't think it's fair to attack Nadia or any of the romanians here just like it's not fair to attack Jordan or Cecile. Romania is fighting tooth and nail for this program and a medal would have been huge for securing funding so I absolutely understand why they are passionate about this.
I get that mistakes can happen but this was an olympic final and if things need to change to avoid this in the future then it should be discussed.
Rebeca Andrade of Brazil celebrates after winning the silver medal in the artistic gymnastics women's all around during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games at the Bercy Arena in Paris, on August 1, 2024.
I was waiting for the NBC Primetime angles to confirm whether Sabrina went OOB or not and she was clearly in bounds omg. FIG actually robbed her. She would have been 13.8 and won bronze without the 0.1 ND.
AA final: Suni goes OOB on vault, but line judge misses it & she avoids 0.1 ND
FX final: Sabrina stays in bounds on floor, but line judge incorrectly calls it OOB
Missing out of bounds is one thing, but inventing one is way worse. Giving gymnasts the benefit of doubt or missing deductions in real time is one thing. Inventing deductions that don't exist is completely worse.
Even if FIG never changes the results, they need to give an explanation for what the ND is and change things so there is robots, sensors, video review, you're able to inquire NDs, etc. so this doesn't happen again.
This is like the most blatant error FIG has ever made because e score and even d scores or incorrect start values can be subjective. OOB is completely objective, you're either in or out and Sabrina was in.
Also I feel like this is worst even then what happened to Yang Tae-young since they didn't file an inquiry until the competition was over. Sabrina's coaches immediately filed an inquiry and even tho d scores are for inquiry only that has to change. Also Nadia isn't a coach or part of the federation but she allegedly complained about the score immediately too and chief judge told her Sabrina went OOB but they were literally lying.
Rebeca Andrade performs her olympic floor routine beautifully, with a difficulty score of 5.9 and an execution score of 8.266, totalling in at 14.166, she wins first place and takes home the gold for Brazil! Making history and becoming the Brazilian athlete with the most olympic medals ever!
