Chapter 13 Field Work
I chose to interview my mother who is an immigrant who came here with my father and myself in 2001. Her story was one of great luck since she had to win a visa lottery just for us to get here. She migrated from Nigeria and told me that it was very hard to come to America from where she was from because of immigration laws. When she first came to America she was very shocked because of the culture. Since she only came with two people she didn't have much family here, and didn't have many people to lean on. She told me that she had to work extra hard to get everything she has and doesn't like the laziness that comes with many American people. She was always guided by Nigerian media that living in America was the dream but she even revealed to me that sometimes she wish she never came, but is also happy she did so I could get many opportunities that she couldn't.
