[Help reblog please] Sudden Kickstarter taxes problem and the frustration :/

To be honest, I really don’t like making an update concerning problems in my private life, but this time I really have no idea where to turn to aside from our game’s supporters.
It has been almost a year since we were funded and we thought all matters regarding the Kickstarter funds had been solved, but apparently… it is not.
As you all already know, we are not a US-based creator. We asked our friend in the US to act as our proxy when we made the Kickstarter because our country is not officially supported. We thought we would only have to pay taxes in our country, but apparently that’s not the way international taxes work. We should have known better, really, and all blame is on our ignorance (we really didn’t expect we would reach that much funding to be sent the 1099-K tax form since it’s just given to those with more than $20.000 gross sales.)
Our friend in the US received the 1099-K tax form and the amount of taxes that needs to be paid is around $6000-8000 (our friend doesn’t know the exact amount yet, she will know for sure around next week), which is definitely not a small amount and is a huge problem for us because we just don’t have that much money currently… (we’re already 1 year in development and most of the Kickstarter funds have been used to assist in various aspect of game development). It’s not only the amount that is causing a headache, actually, but more about the timing of payment. We need to pay it on 1st March or we’ll get penalized and need to pay even more taxes. We might be able to pay it if we pool our resources for several months, but collecting $6000-8000 in less than 1 month with just my sister’s salary (I’m not working yet…) is really out of the league for us :/
Hence why, while I had not intended to open any pre-order / donation / anything during this game’s development period, I’m gonna have to do it this time or my friend in US will really suffer…

This problem is really frustrating me because it was just so sudden and I didn’t really expect it (again, we should have known better…). It’s good that I’ve finished my exam already or else I might not even be able to pass it :“)

To make this update less depressing, I’d like to announce that we would release the new demo in around 1~2 weeks time :) (yup, at least there’s a good news here that can make you guys happier after reading this update).
