Preventing an autistic person from stimming is probably on par with taking a quadraplegic person’s wheelchair joystick away, taking a deaf person’s sign language away or taking a blind person’s Braille away.
Autistic people NEED to stim to function, dammit! You wouldn’t punish or shame physically disabled people who use mobility aids, tactile reading or sign language to function, so why does anyone think it’s okay to punish and shame autistic people for doing something that helps them function?
Parents, if you suppress your child’s stimming, you are being ableist and you are abusing them. It’s okay to teach them alternative stims or give them a quiet stim toy if you need them to be quiet, but you should NEVER, I mean NEVER, teach your child that stimming is bad and needs to stop.
If you are autistic and were shamed or abused for stimming– it’s NOT your fault. It was wrong of anyone to stop your stims and I hope you learn it’s okay to stim again. YOU are not broken!

Shoutout to autistics who have suffered trauma
To the autistics with PTSD or cPTSD
To the autistics who get flashbacks that trigger meltdowns
To the autistics who get triggered by everyday things
To the autistics who need to stim to deal with their triggers
To the autistics who who have terrible memories because of their trauma and feel fake because most autistics seem to have excellent memories
To the autistics who can no longer use certain comfort objects or stim toys because of associations to their trauma
Whether your trauma is fresh or long since passed, whether it derives from one instance or many, whether it affected you from the very beginning or took years to have an effect on you, you are so valid. Your trauma is real and the effects it has upon you are real.
No matter what your trauma, you didn’t deserve it. It was not your fault. I know all the maybes and ifs in your head, but it was not your fault.
You are so beautiful and so strong and so powerful. You have survived so much and are still here to grace the world with your presence.
It may not get better today, or tomorrow, or next week, but one day things will get easier. One day you will be truly happy again despite the monsters in your past.
Stay strong. You are so loved by so many. You have an amazing community here to support you whenever you need.

Don’t post harmful, ableist opinions in the #autism tag and then act all superior and say you refuse to change your opinion when autistic people point out that your opinion is harmful and ableist.
You can walk away from sharing that kind of opinion about us or our caregivers and not have consequences other than a bruised ego.
Autistic people can’t.
Autistic people are bullied, abused and killed by caregivers with the same or similar harmful and ableist opinions you have.
If you care AT ALL about the welfare of autistic people, LISTEN when we respond to your opinion with why it’s harmful and / or ableist.
“Putting up with” an aggressive nonverbal autistic person whose communications aren’t understandable is not heroic. It’s being a decent person. You can learn a lot about a society by how it treats its most vulnerable members.
An opinion that it is heroic of people to do the proper human thing by taking care of another human who is more vulnerable than them and unable to ‘give back’ implies that disabled / autistic people are needless, inconvenient burdens who should be grateful that you didn’t abandon or kill us.
That “opinion” is dangerous.
We don’t choose to be autistic / disabled, but you get to choose whether or not you “keep” us.
Our lives, value and personhood are non-negotiable.
Saying anything to the contrary can have deadly consequences for us.

if exploring your gender is ‘becoming a trend’ then i’m glad it’s replacing the ‘being confused and miserable with no context or vocabulary for what you’re going through’ trend
there is honestly zero things wrong with people exploring their gender
Exploring your gender leads to either discovering a gender identity you feel more comfortable with than the one you were assigned at birth or realizing you identify best with your assigned gender except now you have a better understanding/awareness of trans, genderfluid, and nonbinary people and can begin to break down the toxic, transphobic bullshit you have most likely heard or seen at some point in your life :)
