Jaime and Brienne, A Summary, Part Six
Keep reading
Brienne doesn’t need to be the object of passionate desire. she’s the woman who teaches Jaime a better way to love. that’s infinitely more meaningful than reducing their relationship to physical attraction. to me, that actually cheapens what makes her unique. she’s not the intoxicating, all-consuming love. she’s the peaceful one. she’s the woman jaime chooses once he grows up. that’s the entire point of his arc.
Man, idk how to tell u this, but they want to fuck. Like, they want to fuck each other’s brain out. They want to bone. They want to have SEX. And then probably cuddle a little cause they are clingy like that but after that they want to have more sweaty steamy very loud sex, you know? Like they want to fuck for real and then some more.
Idk what’s up with this purity take. Stripping physical desire away from Jaime and Brienne doesn't elevate their relationship; it completely sanitizes it. Saying that physical attraction "cheapens" Brienne’s uniqueness feels like a veiled excuse to desexualize her just because she’s ugly. Sorry, she’s ugly and Jaime still wants to fuck her and she wants to fuck him too.
(I’m not even going to enter here on the concept of Brienne serving only as Jaime’s self help book and therapist because again, is she even a character to you or just an accessory to Jaime’s path of self rehabilitation?)
And again I ask: what’s peaceful about their feelings for each other? Like, where this idea that their feelings are “peaceful” (name: boring) came from? Because that’s not on page. Like at all. There’s nothing peaceful about how they make each other feel. They get under each other's skin in a way nobody else can. Their feelings deeply unsettle them precisely because they are so incredibly strong. It is the definition of an intoxicating, all-consuming love, one that completely rewires Jaime's brain and troubles him from the moment he meets her and one that shatters Brienne's pre-conceived notions. It’s a crisis of faith for both of them.
A connection can be spiritually profound, emotionally transformative, and also incredibly horny, which they are you know. Horny. For each other.
A moment for one of my favorite lines of one of my favorite fics, by @chickren who always delivers no matter what:
@chickren yeah like, I get the appeal of the courtly love trope, but… that’s just not what George wrote here. 😭
I think people sometimes mistake “they’re not toxic” for “they’re chaste,” and those are completely different things. Their love is incredibly sincere, but it’s also messy, hungry, and very much rooted in the fact that they desire each other. George never treats those things as being in conflict and he’s so much in your face about it.
there's a specific pain i feel in my bowels when someone calls asoiaf 'the game of thrones books'
Testing out gradient maps with a Brienne drawing cause I love her
i miss brienne of tarth...
“Some men are blessed with sons, some with daughters. No man deserves to be cursed with such as you.”
Brienne for the last six fanarts challenge from my twitter
These people are doing some great things.
i’m going to be really honest with you guys i think the tendency to read the absolute worst possible intentions into every action you don’t agree with is getting too automatic and it’s eating you from the inside out
jaimes descriptions of brienne are so fucking funny bc he keeps going on and on and on abt how fugly she is but he always says it in a way that's so painfully obvious he wants her baddddddd

I haven’t read ASOIAF in a billion years but I always did love GRRM’s whole “The ideal of the knight was never real, they were duplicitous, violent thugs: nevertheless here are some characters who, with wildly varying degrees of enthusiasm, choose to believe in it anyway and attempt to embody it despite the world telling them how stupid that is.”
Actually, I think that’s something I kind of enjoy generally. “You have to try anyway” is such a good fucking theme so yummy and delicious actually
Have fan theories about The Winds of Winter poisoned your ability to enjoy the book if/when it is published?
No
No, weirdo, what are you talking about
Yes
Yes, a bit
Yes, but only for certain characters/storylines
Maybe/don' t know/possibly
I have never read or engaged with a fan theory
Nuanced answer, I will explain in a comment
Bald; I don't want to think about this; bored but nosy
We're doing a Q&A episode on The Winds of Winter, feel free to contribute your own questions on this post or to drop us an anon.
Jaime: My lady of Tarth, is so good to see you again...
Brienne: really? Aren't you anxious to see me? I mean, our last meeting was.. Really crazy; Lady Stoneheart, the trial, our fake marriage in the Quiet Isle..
Jaime(reminding that Cersei has already dismissed him of the Kingsguard before Quiet Isle's adventure): yeah.. About that last one hit...
jaime lannister is incomprehensible to the non asoiaf mind. yes he defenestrated a 9 year old. yes he’s fucking his twin sister. yes his incest started a war. yes he’s a widely loved fan favorite. no none of these things contradict each other
