You don't need to do anything in particular to be a therian or otherkin except just having that identity. You don't need to do quads. You don't need gear. You don't need to have a pack. You don't need to be able to draw your kintype. You don't need to have shifts often or at all. You don't need to make animal vocals. You don't need anything other than identifying as your kintype. You can do whatever you want with that identity, and it doesn't have to align with what the community likes to do with theirs.
That ācringeā nonbinary xenogender genderfuck therian who uses neopronouns and may or may not go on HRT while being loudly, proudly themselves will always be more revolutionary and subversive than a binary trans person who aggressively reproduces the cis status quo and shames anyone who doesnāt do the same.
By the way, I threw ātherianā in here as a bit of a litmus test for those responding to it as something widely regarded as ācringeā but ultimately completely harmless and benign thatās often maligned by people with conservative beliefs. And well. It did its job quite amazingly given how many of the negative responses Iāve seen have focused on that rather than the overall message of shaming people for their identities is bad and counterproductive. Itās almost like these people view all of those stated identities this way but used the silly furry one as a āweak pointā theyād get minimal pushback on to dismiss the very clear point of the post. Literally hilarious honestly
Two Spirit is an umbrella term coined relatively recently, encompassing unique gender identities and sexualities within the diverse cultures of the thousands of tribal nations across the so-called USA and Canada. Two Spirit exists beyond colonial concepts of what gender is. Not every queer native is Two Spirit, and not every Two Spirit native is queer.
Deconstructing gender starts with understanding that western concepts of what is male and female are colonial and bigoted. For indigenous peoples across turtle island, those we consider trans/queer today were honored community members.
This piece shows Rabbit, on the left, dancing in the traditionally feminine jingle dance style whilst sporting top surgery scars. On the right is Coyote, dancing in traditionally masculine grass dancer regalia whilst having breasts. These two are actually meant to represent me and my native boyfriend. We are both two-spirit, definitions differing because we are from different tribes, and while I have chosen to dance jingle as a man, he has chosen to dance grass as a man. We are both transgender, and in this way we break the typical gender norms of the dance styles.
Two spirit powwow dancers are all over, and find creative, unique, contemporary ways to imagine their own regalia that fits their identity. So we can heal from dance, too.
Interpret these two however you'd like. A man can dance jingle, a woman can dance grass, anybody can dance whatever style their spirit needs.
There are no closets in tipis. Happy pride to all of my fellow 2spirited natives who have had to fight to justify who they are to colonized minds who seek to place us into their own gender/sexuality boxes.
((No, Two-Spirit is not comparable to being nonbinary or bigender or anything else. Those labels exist with ideas of colonial gender norms in mind.))

Additionally, the old community had huge problems with ableism and exclusionism. I cannot stress enough that yāall cannot let wishful thinking distract you from the full picture. We can respect those whoāve come before us, all the discussions they held and the spaces they created without romanticizing them. Regardless of what you think about the communityās current state, it is arguably better than its past.
If the community was anything like it was maybe twenty-ish years ago, I wouldāve left. Thereās far too many aspects of my alterhumanity that wouldāve had me grilled, disrespected and harassed to hell and back. Iāve heard enough accounts from fictionkind who either saw this firsthand or shortly thereafter. Honestly, you donāt even need to go as far as twenty years ago when cases like Tirea Naāviās happened in 2010. Donāt even get me started on the communityās history with linking and the concept of choice-based experiences in general.
You can do the things that you see from our communitiesā past. The current state of your community has never impeded you from doing that. I may not post my essays on Tumblr as much as I used to, but I still write them and post them to Dreamwidth!

Not all of us are overt, thereās a good chance you have talked to and maybe even been friends with a schizophrenic without knowing!
Thereās more schizophrenia spectrum disorders than just schizophrenia, such as schizoaffective personality disorder
āSchizoā is considered an offensive term by many schizophrenics and some even consider it a slur against us, if you arenāt schizospec yourself please try to avoid using it (as well as āpsychoā for psychosis!)
Similarly, the recently common āquirkyā online phrases ādeluluā, āschizopostingā, āIām so delusionalā (without actually having a delusion), etc are also very offensive! We arenāt a joke!
Not all of us hallucinate or have delusions. Thereās more symptoms than just those 2 and the schizophrenia diagnostic criteria doesnāt even necessarily require either of them to be present
We can sometimes know weāre having a delusion while still experiencing the delusion, itās called double bookkeeping
We deserve rights and bodily autonomy (that includes to not be forcefully drugged and locked up without our consent!!!)
