( ➶ ) —                 flexing his fingers against the arrow, alec lined the shot; the vampire had been cast out by it’s CLAN and killing it would cause no WAR between worlds. it had become a menace and needed to be put down. there was no doubt in his mind that this was the MONSTER that had been mercilessly draining bodies; the way it drooled with hunger while approaching the young woman.  just as his arm pulled at the bow and prepared to release, her sudden screech sent it spiraling, alerting the vampire. in a flash it had vanished into the night, and alec had assumed the girl was speaking to the bloodsucker, before he realized that wasn’t the case. in a few short strides he was towering over her, brows knit in confusion ❝ were you just going to let it kill you? do you have a DEATHWISH? ❞

█ Arrow spiraling off into lord knows where, Oleta’s eyes are wide with shock, they shift between the boy with the bow, and to the other person she had seen. They were gone and she was confused. What was going on?

Before she could put her thoughts to words, the boy was in her face, scowling down at her asking questions. ❝ No, I don’t have a deathwish... I have ways of protecting myself. ❞ Her fingers wrapped around the hidden thing in her pocket, which she would pull up as an example to her determination. ❝ So don’t push your luck. ❞

❝ What do you mean by it? ❞ She wasn’t that slow that she didn’t realize he didn’t use a gender for the stranger that had vanished.

( ➶ ) —                 as of late, there had too many deaths. alec had been sent to watch a SPECIFIC vampire, while his sister was across the city watching another. there had been a few that were in VIOLATION of the accords; taking mundanes, draining them dry and leaving them to rot. there had been a list as long as his arm, narrowed down to just a few & alec wasn’t feeling lucky about this one, until she ducked into a small community center. still hidden by his runes, the young man followed along behind, drawing his bow slowly as the vamp approached the young woman who seemed to be alone. as much as he’d hate to reveal himself and the shadow world to the UNSUSPECTING mundane, it was the lesser of two evils.

█ As she focused in on the one person, Oleta started to feel a little more scared, they weren’t speaking to her just watching. It was dark and hard to see, but something about them was all wrong. Then out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of something or someone else. ❝ Who are you? ❞ Her eyes went wide when she realized that the other man had a weapon. ❝ I’m going to call the authorities! ❞

█ Working alone that night, Oleta was feeling rather uneasy. The place didn’t send to give her the spooks, but tonight was the first time she didn’t have someone with her, which could be adding to her goosebumps. She stopped in her tracks when she heard a sound, turning around to see some man standing there in the shadows.

▇ ▇▇▇ — she had to F I G H T everything, always; part of why he loved her. part of why he was letting her go. she wouldn’t understand now, maybe she never would – maybe he didn’t WANT her to; but, she didn’t need to. he knew that he was HUNTED; HAUNTED, and the darkness wouldn’t stop until it swallowed all the light in his life – right now, she was the only LIGHT. the brightness at the end of the tunnel, and he had to turn the other way, for fear of darkening her too. he felt SELFISH in that moment when she moved in close,  the danger of her lips looming all too close; he was so POWERLESS to her. of all the PAIN he’d suffered in his life, this would be the worst. the way his heart was ripping itself to shreds; keep her, push her away, do what’s right, do what you want. mind no better, playing memories of the first time he saw her, touched her – his family laying BLOODY across the kitchen floor.        “ STOP! ”

a hand to the side of his head as he turned away, pushing past her while his NERVOUS habits kicked in, full force. teeth chewing at the inside of his lip, the tang of BLOOD flooding his mouth. first finger to THUMB, second finger to THUMB, third finger to THUMB, fourth finger to THUMB –repeat. his shoulders were raised, and he was doing everything he could to keep from breaking DOWN – he had to be strong.          he’d feel sorry for himself when she was SAFE.

                                    “ GO! ”

█ The outburst made her whole body violently retract, Scott didn’t yell at her, not like this... never like this. He would get upset, but he wouldn’t take it out on her. Venting was one thing, refusing help was another, but now he was directing his anger at her. Oleta wasn’t one to take shit from others, being quiet was different than being complacent.

With hand curled back up to hold the sheet like a shield, all she could do was stand there looking at him.

          “Please, don’t start hurting yourself... Scott─” His demand cut her off, and she looked around for something to do, for any clothes she could find. Right now she was naked, it felt far too vulnerable to be that way around him. If he wanted her to leave she wasn’t going to walk out in the nude.

Spinning in place, eyes scanning the room, heart beating so hard in her chest that it hurt. A mild panic was washing over her, but after a moment Oleta lifted her head and turned to face him. This time when she approached there was no hesitation, no pull back from a touch, instead there was a firm grip to his shoulder. A tug to force him to look at her, nothing hurtful just strongly urging.

         “No. I’m not leaving, not when you’re like this.” She could see the habits, the self-destructive things that gave sign to his emotional distress.
