step by step guide to disarming a magic user
a big thing that is important to note about magic is that it most often makes use of three requirements: somatic, verbal, and material. some magic users may vary but most will be completely magicless when unable to perform the necessary actions to cast a spell
step 1: somatic
say you are battling a magician. many magic users use their hands to perform the somatic element of their spells. what you are going to want to do is pin them down. go for the wrists and pin them against a wall, floor, or other assorted object in your way. most mages are fairly weak and will take significant effort to break out of your grapple
step 2: verbal
while many spells require all three elements to cast, there are plenty that will only require one or two of the elements of casting. for this reason you are going to want to silence your caster opponent. you can do this in many ways with fingers in the mouth or if both hands are occupied you can use your mouth
step 3: material
most magicians and wizards use a spellcasting focus like a wand or book or materials pouch. the safest place to keep these are within the many robes mages adorn themselves with. try fire or teleportation magics if your opponent is still casting. be warned that spells on another’s component pouch can evoke unexpected reactions. therefore the single safest way to ensure a bloodless disarming is through persuasion
