I'm still processing all the moves the Devils have made in the last few days, but I keep coming back to Marky. I know the trade was a good one, and I know Evan Rodrigues was a good piece to get, but man, am I going to miss Marky. I know he had a bad season last season, no use denying that. But he is also a reflection of the team playing in front of him, and it sounds like there was all sorts of shit going on there this past season.

There was a game this season when he took a delay of game penalty for sending the puck over the glass, and you could see how upset he was with himself for making a mistake, and how determined he was to make it right. I could almost feel through the screen how fast his heart was racing. And he was always like that as a player. He cared so much. Such a good guy.

allow me to vent one last time and then all of you will be free from hearing about this but just,

there's so many what ifs here that it makes me mad. even in the eventuality that he doesn't pan out and people get to victory lap over him being ty smith/alex holtz 2.0 (which is such bullshit btw), you'll never convince me that it wasn't the devils that ultimately failed him.

for some reason tom fitzgerald was obsessed with acting as if he was strong-armed into drafting players he voluntarily chose to draft and then making it everyone's problem but god. you'd think it would kill them to actually nurture and develop one of their own high draft picks. and it makes it all the more annoying because they could do it! they could be patient, they could be forgiving when it came to luke but not with nemo.

and obligatory disclaimer that this obviously isn't a luke vs nemo thing just because i think nemo should've been treated better doesn't mean i want luke to be treated worse. it just sucks that over the last three years there's so many parallels between them where luke gets the luxury of never having to doubt his spot or his standing or his ice time while they stick nemo in limbo. especially coming off of a 23-24 that should've left them on equal standing.

also kind of just sucks that so many people seem to direct their anger at him for rumours that are so easily disproved. everyone just started running with the he wants luke money when even the "insiders" that claim he does present it as pure speculation. or for brenden dillon being a loudmouth to the media. or for paying too much credence to slovak news that clearly comes from disgruntled journalists. and there's no one on the team to advocate for him or stick up for him and it sucks.

idk at the end of the day the trade is fine? they'll probably flip the picks for some player(s), maybe buyout one of the deadweights and the team will be Fine. maybe if jack's healthy the whole season they might even be more than fine.

it sucks because you hear nemo just yesterday say that he didn't ask for a trade and friedman saying he wanted to get off on the right foot with the new management and every other time over the past season he's reiterated that he would love to stay here and find a way to earn his spot and for the devils to just give up on him.
