Jaskier has accepted Geralt's marriage proposal. To be fair, he doesn't know about it, but the thought still makes Geralt smile.
Geralt proposed to his bard not like a human would, with a ring and a speech. He proposed like a witcher, the way he was taught to do.
Geralt knows that Jaskier doesn't understand the meaning behind his gesture and he doesn't tell him.
Because who would be foolish enough to marry a witcher? Jaskier would have never accepted if he had known, Geralt is sure of it.
But he wants to pretend, wants to hold onto the though that technically, their bond is special.
So spends a whole summer crafting the most beautiful dagger he has ever created. He starts collecting the metal on his hunts, bargains with swordmasters and leatherworkers and smiths to use their tools. He even goes so far and pucharses two tiny ambers and a handful of (tbh cheap) diamonds.
Whenever Jaskier asks, he says he's spend the money on potion ingredients or his own swords or Roach's gear. Geralt is pretty sure the bard knows he's lying.
It's magnificent, if he dares to say. Light in weight and evenly balanced, made out of fine silver. The stones are embedded to look like two dandelions. The dagger looks like it's made for court, but it is dangerously sharp on both edges and needs a reinforced leather sheath.
It is worth a witcher's proposal. And Jaskier absolutely loves it.
Jaskier carries it with him at all times, makes sure that its clean and polished and stays sharp.
And here's the thing. Whenever Jaskier touches it, he smiles. He smiles at Geralt with that wide grin that makes warmth pool into the witcher's stomach every time. So Geralt hopes that he can pretend a little bit longer if only to see that smile a few more times.
