Welcome to my dark twisted academic farming sim blog. Here, I post my latest on the farming sim genre as I investigate my “pastoral RPG” theory. If you’d like to hear more, I have a whole manifesto on the pastoral RPG and why that’s a more fitting name for the genre than “farming sim.”
The Pastoral RPG: What We Really Talk About When We Talk About Farming Sims – Grumpy Bunny Games
When I’m not on the blogging grindset, expect general gaming content and terrible witticisms from yours truly. Maybe some US politics but I’ll tag that. I’d prefer minors do not follow me on tumblr. Any minors caught following will get the block. My wordpress blog, posted above, is family friendly, so any minors interested in my academic farm sim theory should follow me at www.grumpybunnygames.com. While I’m not about to be posting super adult stuff on tumblr, jokes and reblogs could get rather blue.
Uh, like don’t interact if you’re a terf I guess? Is this gonna help? I'm not sure terfs can read.
Absolutely zero chance anyone who this applies to is on tumblr, but: Blease, developers, I am not going to try your demo if I mouse over your garbage slop logo and it is not anywhere near plausibly related to your slop game.
Back in Three Houses, banners would appear alongside characters in the UI to indicate allegiances and nationality. Fortune’s Weave has a ton of new banners that I’ve tried to sort out below, and some have cool details. I’m calling them “banners” here because “crest” and “emblem” sure do have other connotations in the context of Fire Emblem. I guess banner has it’s meaning in the gacha game, but we don’t hafta acknowledge feh.
Anyway, the banners that appear alongside characters seem to indicate their nation of origin. However, unlike fe3h, it does not appear everyone teams up by nationality. We see Leda recruiting Ninae in the new trailer, implying Ninae doesn’t start on team Leda. However, both use the rose banner. I’m assuming banners don’t change on recruit. I don’t think they did in fe3h?
Sorry this is gonna be long, I'm so tired. Pleaseeeee comment if you notice anymore connections on this subject.
Named Banners
Saraminian Banner
This is a yellow Egytian-ish banner with a winged figure on it representing the Kingdom of Saramis. Obviously, Theodora, as the queen of Saramis, has this banner. We also see it on a generic Saraminian soldier. Remember how we never got a demonym for the people of Duscur? Is Srengi a canon or fanon demonym? Either way, glad we’re clearing this one up now.
Aragonian Banner
This is a circular red shield with a horned animal and two axes representing the Kingdom of Arago. It also boasts the Crest of Dominic!!!! Dude! We only see this banner on a generic Aragonian soldier.
Alcor Banner
We see this banner in a screenshot from the store page, not the trailers. Theodora is facing off against a generic Alcor soldier. It looks a bit like the cat mask that mysterious warrior we saw in the first trailer wears. Or maybe not. I could not find Alcor on the map, but the font on that thing is hard for me to read. I’d be pumped if any of you can spot it.
Unnamed Banners
There don’t seem to be any clues on which regions these banners correspond to. The Dagdan Empire and the Kingdom of Brezarant are the other two big regions, and I assume one of them is Cai’s blue country and one of them is Leda’s rose country. There are a ton of other subregions and other countries not on the Dagdan continent for some of these to belong to, too.
Cai’s Blue Banner
Cai is from a village called Rebeira that doesn’t appear on the map, likely as it’s too small, so I assume this banner is from the region containing Rebeira and not the village itself. Ultand also appears with this banner.
Dietrich’s Goth Banner
Dietrich’s black banner has a horsie and the crest of Lamine at the bottom. No one else seems to have this banner, likely because it represents somewhere up in Fodlan. I don’t think this banner was in fe3h? The one holder of crest Lamine was notably unlanded.
Leda’s Rose Banner
We see quite a few people repping this banner, so I’d assume it corresponds to one of the big nations. Leda, Sirocco, and Ninae are all from rose country. None of the regions have names that scream “rose” to me.
Notably, the rose symbol also appears in what appears to be an exploration segment. It might indicate Leda, who is the controllable character in that bit, but 206 HP is a lot for one character. I figure it relates to the whole dungeon or team or something. It could be indicating the area is in the rose country’s territory. I don’t know what the “rose tempest” means, but it sounds like some sort of special move or condition. The sword Leda finds has the “Prune” combat art, further suggesting we’re somewhere rose-themed.
Ursula’s Dark Red Banner
Crest of the Beast-haver Ursula has this dark red banner that is pretty abstract. Ursula is a hunter, and across the trailers we’ve seen her on both Theodora and Dietrich’s teams. Nothing about this helps place the corresponding region. She could be from Fodlan given she looks so much like Marianne, but there’s no reason Maurice couldn’t have swum over to Dagda.
Thundercloud Knights
We see Dietrich fighting one of these guys. I assume this is the banner of their knight order or what have you.
Generic Enemy Banner?
We see this red banner with crossed lances on a wolf and some thieves. Unaffiliated mobs got their own banner in fe3h, too. Curiously, the demonic beast Leda summons in the first trailer also has this banner.
Actual Physical Banners
There’s some big ol tapestries hanging around in the setting that one would assume mean something. I didn’t see these attached to any characters, however.
Colisseum Banner
We see these red banners hanging over the tournament. I figure it’s the symbol of Dagsion.
Ornate Circle Banner
We see these in the first trailer when Leda takes the stage.
Other Possibly Related Symbols
Alexandra’s Wing Accessory
Alexandra’s wing accessory is probably a Pegasus knight fashion statement? But it also looked a bit like the ornate lock on the chest Leda found. I’d also be curious if the wiggly thing on her tie has significance.
Green guy’s big chest medallion
We see the green Christmas cav fighting with the cat masked person (whose mask might be repping Alcor), and his dangly chest thing also looks like a beast head. Both Alcor and Arago have beast heads of their banners, but I’m not sure the medallion is either.
Magic tiles
These tiles don’t match up with any of the sigils that I can see. I was curious, so I figured you’d be curious, too.
Sorry if there's mistakes, I'm so tired and I've never made a tumblr post with so many dang images. Going to bed now.
Crest of Dominic spotted!!! Above the animal head on the red shield here. I'm going full Pepe Silvia on the trailer and gonna have a longer post later, probably. Presumably Dominic and Aragos have some connection.
It's June 5, both Summer Game Fest and my awful, awful boy's birthday! Sometimes I worry that Sylvain is it for me, and I'll never find a pathetic creature to hate as much as him ever again.
Having acquired a physical copy of Pokemon Pokopia, I can report Nintendo is using the same flavor of coating on game key cards that they use on the regular cartridges.
Idk when or where it makes sense to talk about this, but, in addition to the more pressing matters, the occupation is also causing a bunch of inconveniences. Like, it's become confusing to talk about the weather. "Careful about parking, the driveway is covered in ice. No, no, that's not a lightly-coded message, the snow melted and refroze and now it's slippery." "I think the snow today is discouraging ICE somewhat. Wait, I mean the feds, not that the snow is covering slippery spots."
And Minnesotans love talking about the weather! It's our number one pastime!
