Maybe when Lydia figures out Peter is contacting her and she goes to Derek for help cause she's scared and doesn't know what's happening to her and she just kinda views Derek as someone powerful who can protect her from Peter??
Thats something derek definetely would do! I think he wlso counts her ad a part of the pack so he wouldn't let Peter hurt her :)

he thought she would struggle against his grip but instead her hands moved over his own. and of course she needed to look at him. his fingers slowly caressed her skin where her hands weren’t in the way. actually he was glad they weren’t all claws, teeth and anger right now. maybe they could have some kind of normal. but first he would have to adjust to the fact that he had to share his domaine, his territory, with another alpha. ‘so if you don’t need permission...’ his hand moved from her hips on between her legs.

she’ll scoff, wondering briefly if he genuinely believes she cares. ‘ well then buy me a new one – i can smell the dust in my one. it’s old, and worn down. kinda like you. so until that’s sorted, count this as my side now. ‘ and she’ll smile bittersweetly before burying her head back into the pillow.
‘well if the smell of old worn down things bothers you, you should really get out of my bed. because i’m not leaving it to you.’ he wasn’t able to hide the amused smile taking over his lips. good she didn’t see that with her face buried in the pillow. noticing a familiar hint of fabric derek pulls all the sheets to his side with a quick movement. ‘you also wear a shirt of a old and worn down guy. if you didn’t notice.’
