I thought about just tagging this 'nuff said, but it's not.
I want to say something to all of the women under 50 on this site. Ready? You do not have to be over 50 to start taking up space.
Can I make that blink? Is that a thing Tumblr can do? Because, seriously. The sooner you believe you are allowed to take up space, the better life will be.
If you had to choose one president from history to be resurrected and take over the presidency who would you choose? Why? And what do you think he would do?
Only rules are that the president must be from before the 2000s election year and had held office for at least half a term (two years)

The parties switched their positions in the mid 1900s so the party of chosen president would switch (republicans will become democratic and vice versa)
So who do you choose?
LBJ. Most of the same advantages as FDR in terms of economic policy, but added benefit of being strongly pro-minority rights as well instead of bending to Dixiecrats at the cost of half the country.
His Vietnam record is... dicey, I'll admit, but it positions him well for understanding the current need to defend Ukraine.
His tendency to show off Jumbo and loom over people also plays well with how an inexplicable number of people seem to actively seek out machismo as a key politician trait.
This is a really hard one. I don't know. I wouldn't want any of the Founding Fathers, both because they owned slaves and because the two-party system and a number of enduring precedents hadn't really settled down yet (Washington died before the Supreme Court decided it could overturn laws, for instance), so they'd be ill-equipped to navigate things. Some options, in chronological order (LBJ is already noted)
Lincoln.
Pros: Abraham Lincoln. Abolished slavery. Started Reconstruction. Led us through the Civil War.
Cons: Suppression of other rights, basically only a wartime president so difficult to judge how he'd do in peacetime.
FDR:
Pros: Beat the Nazis, got us out of the Great Depression.
Cons: Japanese internment camps. Didn't mind the Nazis as long as they were only killing Jews.
Teddy Roosevelt:
Pros: Antitrust, conservationist.
Cons: Big fan of the military (what do you think the big stick is?), joined a war to kill brown people and get Glory, racist as heck.
Woodrow Wilson:
Pros: His whole 'league of nations' thing was a good idea in theory, and he did get us mostly through World War One.
Cons: Racist even for his time.
Harry S[.[?]] Truman:
Pros: Marshall Plan. Founded NATO (probably good?) Advocated for National Health Insurance. "Fair Deal". Berlin Airlift. Recognized Israel (I'm putting that in the pros, fight me). Fought for civil rights.
Cons: Korea. McCarthyism. Lavender Scare.
????: Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Dwight D. Eisenhower:
Pros: Fought Nazis. Demanded documentation of extermination camps lest people deny the Shoah in the future. Integrated the military. Interstate highway system. Massive research funding. Significantly reduced the Korean War. NASA. Civil Rights Act. Little Rock. Military-industrial complex.
Cons: Cooperated with Francoist Spain. Got us into Vietnam more. Lavender Scare. Okay, that's actually not that many. I think I'm picking him.
Richard Nixon: Okay, hear me out. First of all, the man gets a bad reputation for being corrupt. But he also was in the wrong time. Today he'd be a paragon of respectability, and fifty years before was Warren G. Harding, whose administration was incredibly corrupt. Nixon just had the misfortune to be smack-dab in the middle, when we had standards on corruption. He opened up China, got us (mostly) out of Vietnam, warmed relations with the Soviet Union, got us to the moon (okay, fine, that was mostly the people before him, but still), created OSHA, signed the Clean Air Act, helped implement major Affirmative Action programs, and generally did a lot of things he doesn't really get credit for. The cons...I don't really think I need to go into. But hey, maybe the GOP will rally around him as corrupt?
Jimmy Carter:
Pros: Seems to have been a decent human being and a nice guy. Signed major laws promoting mental health care. Supported a national health insurance system. Funded education more. Invited gay activists to the White House and let gay people serve in the Foreign Service. Camp David Accords.
Cons: Wasn't the greatest at managing inflation, to say the least. Iran hostage crisis.
I think I like Ike the most, though.

President - Ike
Veep - Hoover (his pre-prez work was amazing and FDR's cabinet later admitted he already had a lot of New Deal programs ready to go, the problem is he was too slow)
Secretary of State - it pains me so fucking much to say this, but...Nixon
Secretary of the Treasury - we are bringing back Alexander Hamilton and you can fight me
Attorney General - okay, we really need someone modern for this. I'm actually kind of thinking Hillary Clinton?
Secretary of the Interior - Teddy Roosevelt BUT we're splitting out the Bureau of Indian Affairs and it will have its own cabinet position.
Secretary of Indian Affairs - first of all we're gonna let Natives vote on whether to keep that name or go with Native Affairs. Second of all, we're going with Biden in an interim role, and we're throwing this one to "every federally recognized tribe gets to vote up a representative and then those representatives form a council among themselves and select an advisor to the President." (I realize this suggestion has its own problems. I'm writing a Tumblr post, not a dissertation, and I know I don't know enough about Native governance to actually properly set up a department which is why I'm doing it this way in the first place.)
Secretary of Agriculture - Taft. He was Veep when TR signed a shitload of the load-bearing laws that became the backbone of the department and he lived through the time period that showed why they were so desperately necessary.
Secretary of Commerce - I have no pick here
Secretary of Labor - FDR (bring! Back! The! Alphabet! Programs!)
Secretary of Health and Human Services - CARTER. Carter Carter Carter. Given another two years the man would have almost single-handedly eradicated guinea worm.
Secretary of Housing and Urban Development - Obama
Secretary of Transportation - Iiiiii do not have a pick here. It has to be someone modern because none of the related duties existed 100 years ago. Maybe we could bump Biden over here once he's done with his interim term and we have a proper head of Indian Affairs?
Secretary of Energy - ....g-d I wish we could just clone Carter. I legitimately don't know. Part of me wants to say "Reagan, but do the exact opposite of everything he says."
Secretary of Education - Coolidge. He was a college professor!
Secretary of Veterans Affairs - GRANT.
Secretary of Homeland Security - this is a bullshit position Bush II created. We're rolling it back in with the Department of Defense, where it belongs.
And finally, a role that only serves intermittently in the Cabinet but I think we should:
Ambassador to the United Nations - JFK. The CIA literally hated him because they wanted him to be more "RAAAH!! WAR!!! COMMIES!!!" and instead he was like "....has anyone, I dunno...talked to each other??" Also puts him in a position where he doesn't need much access to classified files and I think we can all agree that's a good thing.

Fantasy stories that are grounded and realistic are the best kind! The fact they don't know this is even a possibility and don't want to spend enough time in the genre to do anything except sneer at the whole genre, now, that is off-putting.
It’s worth knowing that a lot of creative writing departments actively discourage fantasy writing, based on this sort of thing. There’s this weird idea that some fiction can never be “sophisticated.”
Some of the fandoms I write are fantasy, so I needed a poll option of 'fuck no.' But also, there are people who will not get to enjoy a lot of good authors (Pratchett, say) and man, sucks to be them.

AO3 etiquette 101 (or how to not be an asshole on AO3)
I started putting this together as a joke but it has recently come to my attention that some people truly don't know these things, so today's lucky 10,000 get to learn some of the DOs and DON'Ts of interacting on AO3 from someone who's been here way too long.
First, a quick review of fandom 101
Don't Like Don't Read: if the work in question is not doing it for you, the back button is your friend! Just get out! Hit the bricks! And remember, this isn't an airport, no need to announce your departure.
Ship and Let Ship: not your ship? then it's not the fic for you. Let people ship whatever the fuck they want and use the Back button liberally. Again, no need to tell the author this ship is not for you.
Your Kink is Not My Kink (and That's Okay): what gets me going doesn't have to be what gets you going. And that's okay! Let people enjoy their sandbox while you play with your toys somewhere else.
AO3-specific stuff
You liked the story? Leave a kudos to let the author know. Or even better: leave a comment! Believe me, even a quick "<3" or keysmash can change an author's day!
DO NOT treat your authors like content-making machines! Saying something like "please update" does not make the writer write faster. Loving comments about what you like about the story, however, might do the trick.
You super-loved the story? Bookmark it to find it again!
When you bookmark a work, you also have the option to "rec" it. This will add a little heart icon to your story in your bookmarks.
You can add notes and tags to your bookmarks! These are PUBLIC, meaning EVERYONE can read them (including the author) UNLESS you select "private bookmark", which will add to the bookmarks count for the author, but they will not be able to see what you wrote about it.
