“Deep in her eyes, I think I see the future. I realize, this is my last chance.”
Hello, internet!
I know it’s been a long time. Sorry about that. Things are really busy here in the Library and between saving people from getting impaled and saving people who have been impaled, it doesn’t leave much time to get on this website.
If you want to reach my writer, though, you can, by checking out skyedestiny. Or you can check out this new woman that she’s writing for - eyesbrightaskrystal, even though that page isn’t really yet done baking. She seems, to me, like a bit of a ditz, but, well, who knows.

"A game for those who seek to find a way to leave their world behind."
Martha paused in thought, considering whether or not to share certain things about herself, if she wanted this job enough to tell the truth and risk being sent to the loony bin, or worse, putting the Doctor in danger. She needed to know if she could trust these people with secrets that were not just hers to keep. But she could only stand the way Charlene was looking at her, the way people did in 1913, for so long before losing her temper.
"UNIT is an organization dedicated to protecting Earth from paranormal and extraterrestrial threats. Though I’m just a lieutenant, I have one of the highest security clearances due to my circumstances. I got my position there on the recommendation of a man called The Doctor, who can travel through time and space, and took me with him. I have been to the Moon, met Shakespeare, and seen the end of the Universe. I have fought Sontarans, Daleks, a sentient star, and have helped save the planet at least three times. Now, what aren’t you telling me?"
Now she had done it. She was just glad that the last time she was talked to Jack, he had given her some retcon pills in case of an emergency.
There was a long silence after this. Even Eve, who had been impressed with Martha's honesty, let alone with what the woman had said, wasn't sure of the way in which Charlene would react. In the end, she was the main obstacle that required passing in this trial.
But Charlene's gaze was unwavering, and she sat silent. Behind her, Eve directed a disbelieving and disappointed look at the older woman. How on earth could Charlene still be cold to Martha after that? Enraged by the audacity, Eve twitched, opening her mouth to speak herself.
But at that moment, she was cut off. "The Library," said Charlene, crossing her hands on her desk, "is the compendium of both rare artifacts and knowledge. It houses a wealth of mystical objects and acts as both a safe house and storehouse of all magical and mythical objects in existence." Then, Charlene did something even more unexpected than opening up. She smiled. "And you are now a part of it. Welcome aboard, Doctor Jones."
This response, at first, knocked the wind from Eve's lungs. Relief only set in afterwards, and she gave a bright and excited smile, first to Charlene's back, then to Martha herself.
"Oh, and Colonel Baird." Eve paled at the mention of her name. Charlene's back was still to her. "I would prefer, in the future, not to be interrupted. I've been in charge of this interview process for some years now - I know how things go."
"...Sorry."
Turning in her swivel chair, Charlene, only now, faced Eve. "I have some paperwork to finish up with here. Could you escort Doctor Jones down to the Library - get her settled?"
"Absolutely," said Eve with a bow of her head. Then, she gestured to Martha with a tilt of her head, motioning her to follow the Guardian back the way they'd come.
I don't believe in fate.
A drowsy Eve looks over from the book that’s in front of her.
"Hmm?"
He rubbed his temples, moving his eyes away from his daring book to look at his watch, “1 in the morning. We should be sleeping.” Laughing, he moved Dante’s Inferno to the table in front of him and gave a long, drawn out yawn, “Man, I’m exhausted…. Eve, I just realized I… I haven’t actually asked what you had been reading all of this time. So— what was it?” Flynn hid the resurging feelings down— he didn’t want to remember how it was like to almost lose Eve. No. But a part of him knew that his feelings could never die down— no matter how much he tried.
One in the morning! Was it really? Jogged by shock at how fast time at flown and how little she had felt as if she’d learned, Eve found herself pressed against the back of her chair, staring blankly out ahead of her. ”I could’ve sworn that it was just six o’clock.”
At Flynn’s question, though, Eve felt herself jolt. It was only slight and thank goodness it had been darker in the Library. Maybe Flynn hadn’t seen. It was with blush on her cheeks - did she mention how thankful she was for the dim lighting? - that she admitted. ”Oh, uh, it’s just some anthology of myths.” She shook her head and shrugged. ”Just brushing up.”
The truth was, surrounded by certified geniuses on a day-to-day basis left Eve feeling somewhat insecure in the knowledge department. She’d never, ever admit to it of course. If she didn’t say aloud that she felt inadequate then, well, it wouldn’t be true. Right? …Right?
Julians laid back attitude switched to a faux panic when the woman pulled out a gun. He was hoping that things wouldn’t come to this but when she asked him how he got here… well he grew even more confused. Pulling out a small white envelope from his pocket he laughed nervously. ”Just calm down… let’s not get too hasty here, huh? I got this in the mail… didn’t think I’d actually come and apply or hope for the job, who want’s a library job anyway?” He joked, making sure to keep watch of where she pointed the gun.
If necessary he could stop her bullets, even easily disarm the woman in front of him if he wanted, but he didn’t want to scare her off… or make her shoot him. He hated fighting. ”So who are you, huh? Some sort of security? Definitely don’t seem like a librarian to me. Most librarians don’t normally carry guns, right?” He joked, hoping it would get her to put the gun away.
Something didn't quite ring true with this man's reaction and Eve took to eyeing him critically at first. What was he really thinking? Still, sight of the familiar envelope had her lowering her gun. Aaaaand feeling pretty embarrassed. "Security," she repeated with a slight nod, as if testing it out in her head and finding it acceptable. "Something like that."
Reluctant as she was, she'd need to be more clear with him. Especially if the Library really had chosen him for, well, something. They would be working closely. "Can I see that?" she asked, holding out her hand, still a casual distance away.
Headcanon: If Eve was a pokemon, she'd be a Vulpix or a Ninetails.
Oh my gosh, I could absolutely see Eve as a Ninetales. I feel like she has a more Electric-type feel to me - for instance, if she was a trainer with a team, I know she would have a Jolteon, for sure - but Ninetales’ design just seems perfect for her! Headcanon accepted!

Stone presses the button and…
'our characters are sent back in time about 200 years'
"No! Stone!" calls Eve. "What are you-?!" But it’s too late. In that instant, they are enveloped in light. And when that light fades, Eve and Stone find themselves in a very, very different place. Her complaint is silenced by shock and, quickly, she takes out her phone to check for their location. Only to find that her phone doesn’t work. "No cell service."
By the time Jake had realized that pressing the button might not be such a smart idea, his hand was already resting on it. He opened his mouth to apologize to the colonel, but they were suddenly enveloped in a blinding light. When it finally faded, the place they were left in was far different from before.
"This ain’t the annex," Jake muttered, looking around and their surroundings. He checked his own cell phone, only to find it not functioning as well. "No service for me either. Where are we?"
At Stone's question, Eve's face drained of emotion. Now, looking completely deadpan, she threw her hands in the air, only to let them come crashing back, her useless cell phone banging against her thigh on its way. "Why do you think I was checking? I have no idea."
Spending a moment of huffy annoyance to look around, Eve surveyed their surroundings, trying desperately to place any sort of land marks. No such luck. Finally, with a surrendering shake of her head, she turned back to Stone. "Why did you press the button? Buttons always equal bad news - always."
"I am a man of many layers, Colonel."
"And one of those layers is made oooof...show tunes? Barenaked Ladies songs? Help me out here - what's your usual go-to on these things?"
You've got the touch
Danny’s mostly silent now: the fight is taking all his concentration. It’s good, honestly- he finds this part of superheroing very relaxing. It’s what he was, quite literally, born to do, after all.
Best not to think about that last bit too hard, honestly.
Instead, Danny is a whirl of fists, feet and golden energy, lashing out with his attacks to drive the ninja away from the Starbucks and keep them focused on him as much as they can.
"Are these your snake guys?" He asks the woman over his shoulder. ‘Because they’re not mine."
There isn't much work for Eve and Stone to do in the end, really. The most drastic thing Eve ends up doing, besides incapacitating as many ninjas as she needs to, is shooting one in the wrist when he comes too close to Stone with a sword. Like hell is she going to let one of the Librarians get stabbed when she's on the job.
When Danny asks if this is the serpent society she had been mentioning previously, states that they are not his, she only stares at him with dumbfounded eyes. She and Stone answer simultaneously. Albeit, she is louder - her confusion more...annunciated. "No(!)"
"So none of us knows who those people were?" Cassandra asks as she exits the coffee shop alongside Jones.
"That was a hell of a fight," says Jones, seeming like the only one not affected by the puzzling situation. "You know they've offered you all cards with like, 20 dollars on them for that?" He takes this opportunity to flash the handful of them. "I figured I'd keep them, though. For the best. None of you seem like coffee-drinkers anyway."
But Cassandra snatches the cards away from the young thief. "Hey!" he protests. Shoving her chin in the air in adamance, though, she simply leaves him with a disapproving look and hands out the cards to everyone there. At Danny, she stops. "Cassandra Cillian." She smiles. "Thanks for the help."
Only now does Eve let her shoulders slump. And she sighs, finally relenting to trust this...strange man. "Colonel Eve Baird," she says, extending a hand. "With the New York Metropolitan Library."
Meanwhile, Jones, his mood drastically soured, asks Cassandra, "Can I at least have mine?"
With a smile, she returns a single Starbucks card to him.
"You really don't know who those guys were?" asks Stone.
Charlene was polite enough when she took Martha’s resume, grasping it lightly with her own hand. But was that gesture one of gentleness or something noncommittal?
Her gaze sunk to the papers, hand pushing her glasses back on her face. ”And all this can be found on your resume?”
She nodded. “Yes, ma’am. It’s all on there. Can I ask you something, though? I’m not sure why a library would need a doctor, or another soldier. Is there something else I should know about the position?”
Charlene ignored the questions asked of her and, looking up with eyes that burned with the same intensity as before, said, "Then it's not enough."
She didn't even take the time to thumb through the rest of the papers in her hands. Without even glancing at them, she closed the stack back upon itself. "Dr. Jones, I'm talking about something that you would not tell just anyone."
Not really wanting to lay into Martha any more than Charlene already was, Eve pursed her lips, as if disappointed with herself, before speaking. "Resumes are generally useless in this situation. They're full of things you want people to know, things you'll happily show off. We're talking about something you keep close to you."
Charlene's gaze remained pointed. She would not be swayed away from the matter. But Eve relented, understanding that these were secrets that should not be given without explanation. Even if it was a vague one (as it was the only kind she was able to give at this point). "You saw the halls downstairs. The military presence upstairs. You know that this isn't any ordinary library."
Only now did the older woman's eyes leave Martha. Charlene turned to Eve, looking not at all pleased. "She saw downstairs?"
"I told you she was a straggler." Eve shrugged easily, seeming unaffected by Charlene's seriousness. "Got lost."
"So do you have a castle?" (Incredibly snarky human Eve who could never take anything like this completely seriously and vampire Flynn?)
"No, I live in the Library. Come on. I sleep in a normal bed. I just drink blood. WHY IS EVERYONE HAVING ISSUES WITH THIS?!"
"Wouldn’t it be weird to find out that the Librarian also happens to be a vampire? If you knew I had been one, your opinon of me would have been set. I would have been a bloodsucker to you guys, not Flynn Carsen. And I couldn’t bear to live with that. And I’m undead."
Eve gives a tip of her head, trying out the scenario in her mind.
"You'd just be a bloodsucking Flynn Carsen."
Beat.
"Mm, no. You know what?" She shakes her head, nose wrinkled and lips pursed. "You're right. Shouldn't have done that. Good choice."
Eve, help me. I touched the Arrow of Venus, and now... I'm a chick. I don't know what to do.
Eve’s brows furrow at the strange, unfamiliar voice. And at the sight of the newly-made female Flynn, she throws her hands up, partially out of shock, and partially because…hell, how should she know what to do?
"I-! Wha-!"
It takes some time before she can speak. And once she can, all she manages is a shrill, “Did you try touching it again?!”
"It’s common to get them confused. Even I had forgotten— but only for a moment. Trust me, I would have known soon enough. Reading Aphrodite’s name too many times would have show me." Flynn shot her a bewitching smile, “It should be. If not—” Her face fell, “Well, looks like you guys need to get used to a female Flynn.”
Eve shrugged, getting into gear and beginning to hear off in the direction of the Roman section. ”It’s not too different,” she said. ”You’re still you.”
Still, she bobbed her head back and forth. There were some things that would still need to be…adjusted to. ”It might take some time to get used to things. For you. For me. Us. You know, in that regard, but.” No doubt this would be strange. But her earlier words ring true. ”You’re still you,” she repeated.
"Anyway, let’s not speak in terms of things that are inevitable. Never sounded like your style before."
I don't believe in fate.
A drowsy Eve looks over from the book that’s in front of her.
"Hmm?"
Flynn gave a chuckle, focusing on the text— it gave him quite an intellectual treat. If he were truly to end up on the inside of a inner circle of Hell— where would he go? Would he go to Limbo? The thought entertained him for a moment until he heard Eve’s voice. Sighing to himself, he decided it was silly to keep fighting, “I don’t believe in fate.” Smiling slightly, he said, “It’s late, Eve. Why are we still in the Library at this hour?”
Eve's gaze became puzzled. That was a strange thing for him to suddenly bring up. She wondered what he was thinking about...
Still, regardless of the fact that she'd been using this time to study up, when Flynn mentioned the time, she certainly noticed herself feeling the weight of it all much more than she had been. Her hands rose to rub at her eyes, and a yawn chose this time to emerge. "What time is it?" she asked, genuinely curious.
