#this scene feels like it shouldnt be allowed to exist. like i cannot believe they let spike body angel this hard on film. #angel is so deep in denial in this scene. #he denies that buffy could have loved spike. that spike ever could have been good. that he had any hand in making spike what he is/was. #and spike calls him on all of his bullshit AND kicks his ass??? absolute cinema. #too bad its in ats season 5. which is my enemy. #prev yeah kinda amazing that they play this so straight. like an actual condemnation of Angel #as well as directly and genuinely acknowledging spike’s good and virtuous qualities #angel the show and character treats spike like a joke a lot of the time but this scene…it gets it right.#very important to me that spike’s redemption has so much religious symbolism #when he lifts the cross as a direct parallel to when he draped himself over on in btvs #bc his soul isnt a curse! it isn’t some selfish attempt to woo buffy! it’s HIS choice to fight for salvation #and spike saying that angel never knew the real him. incredible stuff!!! #bc he didn’t! angel never Saw the best parts of spike! #he literally has 0 understanding of the relationship btwn buffy and spike bc he wasn’t there!!!!!
