The funniest part of A New Hope is that Luke Skywalker is a 19 year old who has not locked in yet and plays with toys and sleeps in his childhood bedroom at his aunt and uncle’s house and Leia Organa is a 19 year old with a mission to save the galaxy from fascism. Luke has never left his hometown, Leia just watched her planet be blown up. He’s peeved his uncle is asking him to do his chores, she’s imprisoned for resisting the government. You relate to them both but they’re on complete opposite sides of the 19 year old life stage spectrum.

*hits the joint* In the Harry Potter universe, Merlin is canonically a Hogwarts alumni and a Slytherin, which is impossible because Merlin predates the existence of Hogwarts by centuries. Of course, JK Rowling didn’t know that because she is a dumb bitch. I’m sorry. Misogynistic phrasing. Seriously, how could you write a series about British wizards without truly understanding THE British wizard. Anyway, Merlin would never be able to attend any sort of organized schooling. He’s definitely self-taught in every universe because he’s the most powerful wizard ever AND he’d have been expelled from any institution before he stepped through the door. The only reason they haven’t escorted him away from Camelot is because he can see the future and he is kind of like the king’s dad. I was so disappointed by BBC Merlin. I turned it on and I was like “What the fuck is this shit, where is my perverted old man?”

He’s also referred to as a warlock in BBC Merlin, if I remember correctly. Those three words are used interchangeably in English though they have slightly different connotations and they mean different things in some fantasy series. Because his character and his lore originated in Middle Welsh and Old French literature, his powers, the language used to describe him and even what he is can vary greatly across Arthurian literature. Some sources will just refer to him as a ‘magician’ as a catch all term for anyone who wielded magic before it became a term for illusionists.

In popular tradition, he is the son of an incubus and a nun, he inherited his less savory magical powers from his father and his ability to see the future from God, who rewarded him for not becoming the antichrist. I do not know what that classifies him other than a cambion and the weirdest guy in Britain.

if I feel like absolutely torturing rocky then I sometimes like to imagine a scenario on erid where a few months into The Scurvy Era grace sits him down like "hey pal. there's a chance that the scientists here won't figure out how to meet my nutritional needs any time soon. I would love it if they can! but it might not happen. and I don't want to die very slowly and painfully of starvation. now listen to me. ideally I don't want to die at all. but more than that. I imagine that at this point they've had The conversation about how grace got on the ship in the first place and rocky is aware that his friend has some significant issues about having his personal autonomy overruled, so in the moment he just says "hnnnnnn. I take great pleasure in reading the contributions of the sisters in "our column," and want to add my mite in favor of the "Widow's Say." I am a farmer's daughter: and "we girls" also can harness the horse, put him in the thills and drive to town without assistance; or, if need be, mount and go minus a carriage; we were rather proud of our ability to do so, until "Betty" dampened our ardor by telling us that our place was in the house. "If we conform to your ideas, Betty, how can we learn to do these things or compete with our big brother in riding the spirited pony? He will then surely 'carry the day' in horsemanship." As both a science and English nerd, I love the idea that since Eridians are cosexual (am I using that term right? Let me know), they don’t have pronouns indicative of sex or gender but rather state of relation. Like how Rocky says, “friend Grace”, he is stating the relation of the subject to him. And taking it further, pronouns of possession, like Rocky talking to another Eridian would refer to Adrian as, “my Adrian”, and the other Eridian would refer to Adrian as “your Adrian” throughout the conversation. Because the state of relation is that Adrian and Rocky are mates. And that shifts based on who’s in the conversation when the state of relation to who is present changes. Say Rocky isn’t there. Same Eridian, who works with Adrian, talking to another Eridian who works with Adrian. Now it’s, “coworker Adrian” or “<job> Adrian”. Same Eridian talking to another Eridian who doesn’t know Adrian at all, and now it’s dependent on the context of the conversation. It could be, “Rocky’s Adrian” or “coworker Adrian”. If two states share the individual equally, you get “our Rocky” for Adrian speaking to Grace.

Now that we have discussed this: I would like you to imagine the first time after Rocky left for Tau Ceti that somebody has the gall to speak of Adrian and Not refer to them as “Rocky’s Adrian” when the context would make that the appropriate way to refer to them. Implying they’re available now.

I would now like you to imagine Adrien crushing them into a smoldering gritty smear on the ground.

Practically every single person who has ever pet one of my peafowl has softly exclaimed "Oh, they're so soft!" so I feel safe in declaring that they are, indeed, soft, or at least that they feel very soft to many people.

But, there are definitely chickens who are softer than others, like a rooster is not soft a rooster is smooth, but has Textures because you can feel the shafts of the feathers, or because the iridescence is structural and that structure has Texture. A big, fluffy cochin hen is going to feel different than a cemani hen or a silkie hen or a frizzle.

If you pet a peahen down the back, she is Incredibly Soft. 11/10 can recommend. Her neck is smooth with very soft bumpy texture as you go over the scallop feathers in front.

If you pet a peacock down his neck, it is like petting a wire-haired dog that has been rolled in corn starch. 0/10 petting experience. Same for his train. But his back and wings are all smooth/soft, and the butt fluff is downy soft.

So it really depends on where you are petting them and which bird it is.

If she didn't like it, she would simply walk away from me! They do have distress noises, but they're usually either warning noises or panic nosies during restraint. I am seated in an Adirondack chair, with no way to force her to stand there or tolerate me annoying her, and even when petting her I am not restraining her movement. They have a 1200sq/ft flight pen + a, 8x24' coop, and my chair is in one corner, opposite the coop so I'm basically as far away from anything central as I can get. They choose to come over and interact (or sometimes they don't, and we just hang in different areas of the pen), and Mantis often chooses violence (biting me over and over again) to get my attention and get pet.

You'll also notice that I ask for permission twice- once when I hold out a finger and once when I hold out my hand palm up. Both of these are gestures that, for us, mean "May I pet?" and you'll also notice that she holds still when I do those gestures- that's permission, waiting for me to pet. This was a while ago; we're at the point now that when she comes up looking for treats I will say "Just pets" and she'll stop looking for treats and hold still to get a beak rub. You can see her at the end reaching for my hand with her beak, that's her trying to ask me to keep going (hence why no asking permission first there).

These are, despite what some people think, intelligent birds. They have social structures and rules, and some form of communication that humans can participate in if they are patient and observant.

So yep! She is definitely enjoying the interaction- she initiated it and is having a great time getting what she wanted.
