Seeing the happy expression made Peter happy too, glad to see that they were okay. He carefully lifts him up, holding him as he stands up. “I’m happy to be here too, Groot. I can never leave you alone, alright? You always have me, buddy. I promise.” He isn’t going anywhere, that’s for sure as he looks at them. “I’m not sure actually, but it looks like everything is back to normal now. You hungry?”

at the other’s words, groot could shed a tear. he could never stand being away from the guardians for so long. however, quill’s answer didn’t give groot the kind of answers he wanted. but he figured that if even quill didn’t know, then there wouldn’t be much to know about. the boy shrugged, he could leave the question. groot nodded when quill asked if he was hungry. he didn’t quite know when was the last time he ate. “i am groot (what are we eating)?”

to anyone who knew doreen, it came as no surprise that she could be a bit of a klutz sometimes; she’d accidentally stepped on tippy toes’ tiny feet at least a few times. but today, someone else fell victim to her clumsiness − the smallest guardian of the galaxy. “oh shoot!” she winced at the realization that she had managed to completely overlook groot, accidentally kicking him over. “super sorry, little dude! you okay?” kneeling down to offer help up, she pressed a kiss to the top of his head. “there. all better?”

the boy groaned and rubbed his head. the whole thing was completely unexpected, though he did feel a lot better after doreen kissed it. he knew the other didn’t mean to do it though. after a bit, he looked up at her and gave a thumbs up. “i am groot (i’m fine!)” he said, and slowly lifted himself off the ground and dusted himself off.

Peter wanted to check up on his friends before anything else, and the first that comes to mind was Groot. He started going through the halls to find him right after waking up, still in his uniform since he must have fallen asleep with it on. Which wasn’t a big deal, he normally did that regardless. He turns down an empty hallway, hearing a familiar voice. “Groot? I’m here buddy, I’m right here.” He insists as he runs over to him, stopping to bend down and greet his friend, feeling a sense of relief.

as quill stepped closer, the boy grinned widely. now he knows, that at least quill was safe. he rushed over to him and jumped on whatever part of them he could reach. “i am groot (i’m so happy you’re here)!” a thought flashed through his mind. the whole situation was strange in itself, no matter how much strange things he’s already encountered so far in the seventies. “i am groot (what happened)?” the boy asked.

after all of that’s happened, groot felt the need to cheer everyone up. especially those closest to him. crawling on the back of the sofa as carefully as he could, he began to think of things he could do to cheer gabby up. maybe she’d like to go out and get some food. or maybe watch one of those funny shows on the television. either way, groot wasn’t gonna leave until she was happy. as he reached the top, he huffed and called out to the girl. “i am groot!”

the boy felt a little apprehensive, walking through the mansion. it felt like moments ago when he was in a cell, holding onto quill and more scared than he’s ever felt before. now everything was quiet and still. he saw a few people as he continued his walk, but they were the ones he didn’t know quite well. his mind kept telling him to look for the other guardians, but a part of him felt that maybe they wouldn’t be here. groot finally decides that it’s worth a try. frowning, he called out on the currently empty hallway. “i am groot! (hello? anyone?)”

the boy smiled as the other patted his head. at the other’s words, he began to think of what he could be. which of the guardians would he be more like? would he grow to be like quill, an avid lover of music and a brave captain ; gamora with her fierce attitude and her affinity with sharp knives and swords ; or more likely rocket with his mechanical expertise, but hopefully not his tendency to have spare body parts lying around. as he thought of these things, he looked up at the other again. “i am groot (what does it mean to be a ‘fun’ person)?”

he slowly opened his eyes, still shocked from what happened. he sat up as carefully as he can and jumped when he saw the other. groot didn’t really expect anyone to notice him, but he guesses that the feedback is probably what attracted them. “i am groot (my ears hurt)...” he said, quite sadly, as he caresses both ears. lesson learned, he thought.

groot looks at him, puzzled about his question. the last thing he remembers before arriving was just him in the milano, walking around and trying to see if anyone was available to play with him. he hadn’t even seen any of the other guardians before arriving in new york. “i am groot (they say we’re in new york. we’re here to battle robots).” at the mention of quill’s name, groot looked at him expectantly. “i am groot (is he here? quill?)”

Even though he knows that Groot could handle himself in a fight, there was no doubt, but he was so small. “It sounds like you had a lot of fun. It’s a shame I missed it. Food huh? What’d you eat?”

as if the boy was expecting the question, groot turned to peter with a huge smile on his face. “i am groot (lots of..candy)!” he was having the time of his life in the mansion with almost no supervision until recently, so he made use of them in the best way possible.

it was a close call. actually, they were a lot of close calls. groot appreciated the other and nodded at their words. the boy walked closer to america, feeling more safer already in the other’s presence. “i am groot (thank you)!”
