Name: Patchwork Jack Aliases: Hellslinger, Jesse Carson, Morgan Chase, Luck & many more. Pronouns: he/they Gender: trans-masc & nonbinary Sexuality: pansexual Species: changeling Class: warlock(?), magical & martial gunslinger Parents: both deceased / accidental death / died when he was 8 Adoptive family: multiple members of the Desert Devils * No known living biological relatives. ** No known romantic partners (ooc: depends on verse).

Caution: Patchwork Jack is a 30 year old armed and dangerous changeling/shapeshifter who was previously a member of the outlaw gang Desert Devils. While in the gang he was an accomplice to multiple crimes such as (but not limited to) armed robbery, identity theft, arson, and impersonation of a police officer. Although sightings of him have been rare since he cut ties with the gang, people with similar accents to his have been spotted committing crimes across the country, headed in the opposite direction of his former gang's territory. It is important to note that there has also been conflicting reports of him seeming to have lost his warlock abilities and/or shapeshifting abilities. In the past he has eluded capture due to the fact he never wears the same face twice and is only identifiable by his distinct accent -- an accent that, with effort, he can conceal.

HISTORICAL PROFILE . . .

Patchwork Jack is a changeling rancher/cowboy with a rather complicated past... Falling into the wrong crowd as an orphaned starving and scared street kid, he crossed paths with members of the Desert Devils. Despite their reputation he was bold, attempting to pickpocket one of them. He was caught but instead of being mad they took him in as a ward. Going on a crime spree with his newfound "friends" (later turned found family) he joined the gang and became a semi-famous thief. As young as age 9 he was helping the gang pickpocket people and steal livestock. At age 12 his resilient nature gained the attention of a mysterious undead warlock patron. His patron, unknown to him when he first became a warlock, fed on chaos, power, and blood. The warlock patron would enable (and encourage) Patchwork Jack to be an active and violent participant in the gang -- resulting in Patchwork helping rob stagecoaches, rob trains, and steal/impersonating other people. It wouldn't be until disaster struck on one of their bigger scores that Patchwork Jack would claim to see the error of his ways.

A poorly placed and poorly timed explosive resulted in a train, NOT the train tracks being blown up. This mistake -- a mistake that was HIS FAULT -- resulted in him getting arrested for both theft and murder. Previously he had no murder charges. It is believed that while in jail, he severed ties with his patron and forcibly broke his pact. The consequences of this decision are unconfirmed but it is likely that he lost all of his warlock powers and his shapeshifting abilities as punishment. How he escaped jail and his current whereabouts are unknown.

I don't support call out culture. If someone is an issue you can use the report and blocking tools. You also can handle the issue privately/without making a spectacle of it. You can also DM privately about unsafe people.

 I'm autistic and have social anxiety. Because of this I struggle with ooc chatter and tend to prefer rp memes to get threads going (versus plotting). I'm open to plotting but need some prompts/questions to get going. Reaching out to me with question ssuch as "what sort of dynamic do you think they'd have?" or "what are some rp tropes you enjoy?" will get you a better response from me than a vague message such as "let's plot"

I have a full time job and live on a farm. I also frequently babysit my niece and nephew (both of them are under 5 years old). Because of this, my reply lengths and speed will vary. Do not follow me if this is a problem for you. Also do not follow me if you look down on people who don't always have the energy to write novella style replies and/or people who can't reply multiple times a day.

Favoritism: I do not have it. I tend to reply to short threads during the work week when I have less energy and long threads on the weekend when I have more energy. I also have friends on here who I write with a lot/have hashed out character dynamics through DMs so I write with them often. Not everything is about you and just because I take a little while to reply to you DOESN'T mean I hate to you. If you easily get jealous of other writers DNI.

I often struggle to understand social cues, especially digital social cues. I especially find soft blocking vs tumblr glitching out hard to determine. Because of this I AM NOT SOFTBLOCK FRIENDLY!!

FYI: I tend to block personal/non-rp blogs, minors, people who haven't interacted with me much after multiple attempts of me reaching out, people who ignore my DNI info, people who are inactive a long time without warning, blogs who have an overwhelming number of muses, people who I feel like I just don't mesh well with, etc.

The crevice they'd ducked into felt like it was made for one of those, anyway; they squeezed between the scraggly fort walls, horns scraping rock and wood in the clamor, tails tangling around legs and ankles. They clambered behind barrels that barely hid them from the angry thunder of guard boots beating by beyond the alley. Zandi might've knocked PJ's hat crooked with his elbow in the scramble to sink below the lids. But they got out of sight, just as the guards turned the corner. Just fast enough.

Zandi's heart drummed in his ears, his held breath burning in his lungs as irresistible impulse worried that to let it go might give them away. His body, hot with his own racing blood, felt damp where it pressed into PJ's, hips and chests and shoulders and criss-crossing limbs. Every sense fired so fast and so simultaneously that they sliced by him, a tidal wave of information. They had to go still, now. They had to listen hard. To wait.

The sounds of chain-mailed retribution faded down the street. And when it was gone, it all crashed down on him like bliss; pounding heart, musky sweat, the sting of scrapes on knees and muscles, the heady swirl of thrill. When his eyesight sharpened, the only thing to see was PJ—their faces inches apart, their bodies not at all. Sweat beaded up fast in the heat of summer; he could see spots of fading daylight glitter in the moisture on his forehead, see the tousled stray locks of his brilliant red hair plastered to his sun-baked skin. He smelled like dust and smoke. His hard breaths filled the silences between his own. He felt strong. He looked wild.

He looked good.

Zandi laughed in that manic kind of way, a breathless cackling and giggling. "Hey, cowboy."

He grabbed PJ's collar, yanked him in, and kissed him as hard as his new bruises would ache tonight. He had to, needed to pour all this unspent vigor, all this chaos, all this life into someone that could hold it. Into him.

He still didn't know his name.

The thrill of getting away with something bold and borderline dangerous will never grow old for him. The yearning to get another adrenaline rush only grows stronger the longer he lingers around Zandi. The man enables him in the best of ways.

The sound of the guard's feet is nothing about a distant echo as they squeeze into a tiny side alleyway of sorts. The crevice is so narrow that horns scrape against rock, tails tangle around angles. They're so squished he can hardly tell up from down, left from right, and his body from Zandi's own. Heart beating like a jackrabbit in his chest, he takes a few deep breaths in an effort so calm himself.

It's hard to remain completely calm, however as the adrenaline fades and he becomes aware of every point of where he and Zandi's body meets his. Hips against hips, chest, against chest... Zandi's giggle is met with a giggle of his own. "Hey yourself. That was some amazin' teamwork."

He just finishes his greeting in time for red hands to curl around his collar and tug him close. The motion is sudden but not unwelcome. "Shit you kiss all your cowboys like this?" he asks with a pleased, blushing look upon his face. "Kiss me again."

He laughs a little too hard at the sight of his companion holding the toy gun. In fact, he laughs so hard his laughter turns into snorts. Wheezing to catch his breath, it takes him a few moments to properly respond. "Considerin' the fact that everyone I know that lived by those forgive and forget and live, laugh, love signs is six feet under, it's not somethin' I'm willin' to do. You can earn my trust back. A good place to start is to help the next gnome we see."

PJ piles the trinkets in their arms and Iago's eyes grow a bit wider with each one. A button, a pretty stone, a paper flower, a- well, Iago has no idea what that one purple shape is but they'll have fun finding out-, a decorative spoon- all purple. Iago likes purple. And they suppose pink, as well. Oh- and green. Emerald green. And sky blue, definitely sky blue, that one's almost as nice as purple - despite their mostly monochrome fashion choices and general demeanor, Iago has grown quite fond of a bit of vibrancy. The clutter that decorates their tent is ever growing and almost nauseatingly full of color at this point.

"I've never considered sorting my collection by color, but I may have to move a few things around." It is sorted, despite what the few privileged to see the inside of their tent might think. It's just a very specific organization that would require too much time and effort for Iago to explain. They readjust to peer over the pile of trinkets in their arms and nod back at their tent. "You're welcome to join me, if you'd like. You could tell me about some of these. If you aren't busy."

PJ can be impulsive. Impulsivity is useful for a thief though. With a quick slip of the hand he can fill his pockets with all sorts of things. Although these days he spends more of his time helping people than robbing him, old habits die hard. Besides, he'd argue that in this case he's stealing for all the right reasons -- to show Iago how much he cares about them as a friend.

Golden eyes flickering over Iago, he emits a low hum of understanding. "I think color codin' it could be fun. You could have a whole rainbow collection. But only if you want to. You do kind got that goth thing goin' on." Perking up at the invitation, he steps into their tent. "I'm not busy at all. And boy do I have some stories for you. Some of the trinkets are ethically sourced, others I had to do a little sneakin'. It was a blast, honestly."

"I'm not lyin' to you!" he insists with a frustrated stomp of his booted foot. He isn't lying. He just isn't telling the truth, either... Keeping track of faces, especially the many varied ones he wears to make money for the gang is hard to keep track of. He thought he correctly shifted back into his usual human face before returning to camp but Sadie noticed something was off. A few freckles in the wrong place, his hair a slightly off shade of red, eyes not quite the right color... Although no one else noticed the discrepancies she did and it made her suspicious. "I've always looked like this." Or rather he's TIRED to always look like this around her. "I have no idea what you're goin' on about. Now if you'll excuse me I got a job out of town I need to head too."

A curious sparkle forms in Jack's eyes upon hearing Raserei's response. He must be hunting something real dangerous and real interesting. PJ wants to know more -- maybe even tag along. The vagueness of it all really only further fuels his interest.

"Sometimes a simple plan is all you need," he replies with a small nod of understanding. "A simple plan with a little back up can be just what you need. Maybe I could help. It sounds like you're fightin' a zombie or something along those lines. You wouldn't even have to pay me. Just bein' able to tag along and do somethin' new and interestin' would be enough payment for me."

Pony's amused grin soon shifts into a more tentative smirk. ❝Just a dangerous child, never a dangerous adult?❞ She teases, cocking a brow as she studies PJ, amazed he remains in one piece. ❝Should I remember that too, in case we're ever behind a canon and run out of cannonballs?❞

Patchwork Jack holds his hands up in mock surrender. "Hey now, I wouldn't lie to you but at the same time... There's times I've got to plead the 5th, you know?" Her later comment makes him emit a hearty chuckle. "I'd consider it... With the proper ear protection. I don't really want to go through the ear achin, ear ringin thing again. It hurt like fuckin' hell."

That... did seem to be the case. Vela sighed and stepped closer, reaching out to stroke along the horse's face towards their nose. She did not sign up for a horse but something about her obviously appealed to the horse. "Alright. Joint custody of a horse, apparently. Is... this something she does with many others?"

PJ's horse leans into the touch, clearly pleased with the affection that she is receiving. Horses, like just about any animal, are good at reading people. It's a VERY good sign that his horse likes Vela so much. "Yes and no. She's very social but she seems to like you more than the rest. It's cute."

"Oh, I assure you, dear, I am much taller when I feel like it." He gave a small, theatrical shrug. "You've clearly not had the pleasure of seeing my form in all its towering glory. I'd hate for you to feel… small."

The devil's words should strike a cord -- make him feel annoyed or even insulted. But they don't. Instead he just feels amused. Who knew the devil was such a talker? He imagined the devil as being more of action guy, killing first and asking questions later. Raphael seems to enjoy the banter. It kinda reminds him of a cat playing with a mouse. "Most people are taller than me but that's just a fact of life. At least, until I break the curse my ex-patron put on me. Once the curse is gone I can shapeshift into anybody I want."

vervain made the decision. tossing his head and snorting in derision, he follows. outside of battle, it might be the fastest he’s moved in days. “ clearing or stream, it does not matter to me. ” a pause. “ but if we do find a stream, i’ll have to take advantage of the water. ”

what she doesn’t say is that as long as she sees the sky, she’ll be content. it would ease the weight that’s settled on her chest.

but it might not happen; limbs and leaves are tangled, and the mess allows the slimmest rays of light to reach the forest floor. “ as for the ground, ” she feels a longing for comfort, and sounds it, too. “ i’ve never slept in a hammock, and i’ve never made one. i was going to resign myself to my bedroll.

"Gettin' stinky are you?" Patchwork Jack asks with a hearty laugh. He's just teasing her, of course. He'd never truly make fun of her like that. "I feel a little dusty from the road myself. And thirsty. Havin' a dry mouth is really uncomfortable." He clears his throat, trying to ward away the ache a bit.

"You can sleep on the ground if you want. But I can teach you how to make a hammock. It's as easy as pie," he assures her with a playful wink. He could for a pie right about now... Apple pie freshly out of the oven with a dollop of whip cream? DELICIOUS. Now he's making himself hungry.

"Is it hard, sleepin' with wings? Or do they kinda work as like a built in pillow?"
