There's one - just one - freshwater fungus we know of that makes an actual mushroom underwater. A normal looking mushroom too, it works exactly the same way as a mushroom does on land.

It's possible mushrooms as we know them evolved on land first and the water mushroom is a fluke but there's also an above zero possibility that there's at least one undiscovered sea mushroom
