when bella didn't want to get married at 18 because she saw how her parents' marriage crumbled and she was opposed to the patriarchal nature of the whole institution, and is bitter about it until the moment she is walking down the aisle, but as soon as she's married she realizes that being mrs. cullen is actually the best thing to ever happen to her and she's immediately ecstatic to have a baby with her husband. the way jacob says "you don't even belong to yourself anymore" about imprinting and is repulsed by the very idea, but then when he imprints he realizes it's actually what he was born to do & nothing could make him happier & he leaves everything behind to live with his mate's family. man once you become aware of the mormon agenda present within the twilight saga it is ALL you're aware of lol

how terrifying it must be to wake up and know nothing. no memories, no sense of self, no idea what world you've been born into. not only is everything suddenly out of your control, but you've lost the tools you've cultivated to feel a sense of control in life.

for this reason i like how manipulative & controlling Alice Cullen seems. why wouldn't she enjoy meddling in others' affairs? she has no recollection of the past & consequently no context for the present. future sight is her only means to relate to others. it's the only tool she has to piece her life together. no wonder it becomes her crutch to find sense & stability. she likes the false sense of security that control over the future gives her - bc nothing else can.

to take it one step further, Alice has built her life & support system around that which allows her more power over her world. in that sense, her choice of coven, mate, & best friend make sense:

the Cullens are isolated enough not to run into chaos, friendly enough to maintain good relations with other covens, & powerful enough to fend off enemies

Jasper provides even more control for her visions. influencing emotions means influencing situations by controlling how people react. not only that, he bends easily to others' authority, esp hers

for all of Bella's griping, she's a doormat to Alice's whims, which naturally makes her a better candidate for Best Friend than someone like Rose

Alice has carefully constructed her life to maximize the certainty of her visions. the more control she has over her visions, the more she feels she understands the world around her.

& it's why Alice's gift is ultimately a curse. it fools her into thinking there's certainty in an uncertain world.
