I am here asking you, tumblr, whether or not to attempt a new endeavor in my life. I do not post a lot of new or original material here on this blog, but I have been considering starting a blog on a subject that I feel has not yet been tried. However, first some back story.
I have just recently entered into the eternal bond of holy matrimony and have received an infinite amount of advice on how to have a good marriage. Me and my new husband, of 4 months now, have a very happy marriage. We plan on having kids soon, and whenever we mention this to, well, just about anyone, we are hit with the same set of responses.
āOh, donāt settle down too soon.ā
āWait till your financially stable.ā
āYou two have your whole lives ahead; live your life first, travel, find yourself, have fun while you can!ā
āPerhaps not yet, live your life to the fullest first, youāll thank me later if you wait.ā
While I appreciate all of the advice, I find all of this advice to be rather irrelevant for two reasons, which brings me back to the point of starting a new blog.
I, as I know many of you are, am an introvert. My particular brand of introverted-ness is what I would describe as anĀ extroverted introvert. For example, get very anxious in social situations that are unfamiliar; IĀ have even avoided necessary shopping due to being terrified of being greeted at the door, then not saying hello back due to that terror, and then feeling anxious about whether or not it is rude to not reciprocate said greeting. However, in certain familiar social situations I can imitate a so called āsocial butterflyā quite effectively. In fact, most of my own family does not even realize that I am an introvert. This is mostly due to the fact that I am much more relaxed around the familiarity of my family. My husband is also an introvert, and a very shy introvert at that. We spend most of our happiest days together, alone, in our small apartment, with the cat playing video games, doing puzzles, reading, watching movies, cooking, and falling in love with each other over and over again.
We want to take the advice of our elders, and those who have raised kids at various ages and maturities, we would like to wait just a touch longer, but first of all, we are not adventurousĀ outgoing people, and second of all, no one knows how to live life to the fullest when you donāt like leaving the comfort of your own home. The common response that we get is, āget over it and do things that are outside of your comfort zone.ā
What people donāt understand is that going out of oneās comfort zone is easier said than done; especially for an introverted couple, one of whom has anxiety on top of that. Sure, there are dozens of travel blogs out there that encourage you to ālive while your youngā and go to a place where you donāt speak the language, and experience life, but what if you get anxious driving to the airport, let alone getting on a plane?
I am asking you, tumblr, if you would like me to blog about how my husband andĀ IĀ are going to ālive life to the fullestā as introverts. An introverted adventure, if you will. We are not going to quit our jobs and hop on a plane for Cambodia, but we are going to have our own adventures. We will take off two days just to watch all the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings movies back to back. We will drive to the next town to buy furniture for our new apartment. We will watch every classic movie that we can google, just so we can say we have seen them. We will find things that we can do together and separate that are perhaps outside, but pressed right up against our comfort zones. I would tell you about all of our adventures, and aboutĀ how you donāt have to go skydiving, or traveling to new countries, orĀ doĀ outrageous things,Ā in order to say you have lived life to the fullest! Its okay to be an introvert, and it doesnāt mean that your life experiences are any less exciting or worth while than an extrovertās. Living life to the fullest as an introvert looks different, and I want to describe it for theĀ extroverted world, that way the they can understand the exciting adventure that we live.
Would that be something you would read? I think it is something that the world sorely needs. There are too many blogs that I have read that look down on the introverted community. I have read blogs that believe adventure only exists in the unknown rather than in the known. I have never read a blog by an introvert on how exciting our lives can be. I have yet to find a person who thinks that we are living our lives to the fullest, and to them I say, āHa!ā we are far happier with not only our lives, but also with ourselves, allĀ while sometimes spendingĀ far too much time on tumblr.
